"...With a spray of snow that flashed angrily in the headlights..."

Funny, in all the years driving to work 46 miles each winter over ice, heavy slush (dangerous) and through huge elongations of drifts-blinding me for several seconds till the windshield cleared, the snow never 'flashed angerily' at me. Must be a Zen imagination thing. Or maybe it's just because Northern Drivers are vastly superior.

...plus, we never had no damned 'zen' back in the days when working men had to GET to work and HOME again.

Thanks be to God no one was hurt. often these accidents are deadly. It is good Mr Whipple that you have never been in a black ice accident in all the years you have driven this road. You are in deed very blessed. The story was well done.

I have indeeed been in a snow storm in the Texas Panhandle where snow flashed angrily in my headlights. And I drove through Raton Pass, my car not handling right a long time ago, only to discover after stopping after getting through the pass I had been driving on black ice.

My story referred to my years commuting in a state very close to Canada. I also managed to miss all the deer darting across the road and other drivers' mishaps. Plus, we ALL DROVE FASTER every day in all conditions. Every day was a skill-sharpening experience.

You want a good driver? Pick a Northeasterner.

Mr Whipple. Re: driving in the northeast (especially the Boston area). I agree every day is a skill sharpening experience. I am not sure I agree drivers from the northeast are the best.

Please stay off the road when whenever ice or snow is on the road. You only endanger others if you fault the car only to discover ice under your tires miles down the road.

Then don't drive near the intersection of lohman and walnut, the bank or doctor's office or whatever is there waters the street nightly, wasting water and endangering the residents of that area as they drive through frozen water. This is not black ice, it's flat out regular slippery ice, speciallly going into the turn onto walnut. The codes people are non-existent but would gladly give a resident a ticket.
