The CAMP program, along with a number of other federally funded college access programs are nothing short of INSURANCE against wasted investments...These students have talent, intelligence, and drive...but without the SUPPORT and MENTORSHIP that they received through the CAMP program, our tax dollar investment might have been wasted. Well done students and CAMP staff alike. Good luck and God Speed.

My advice...leave New Mexico and go ANYWHERE except New Mexico. I could not find a job, even with years of experience in my field that paid over $15.00/hr in Las Cruces. The "good ol' boy system" is still alive and well in LC, and unless you are related to someone, you will never find a decent paying job.

I thought "seasonal" workers and "migrants" were here to just pick lettuce?
Yet another program that encourages illegal immigration.

I'm happy these young men and women are doing better than their parents. I would like to know though, how much each gets from our government to attend school. I honestly don't want to deny it if their parents are here working legally - and hopefully most are legal seasonal workers. I just want to know if they are getting more than what my son, 3rd generation American all, nice and legal, is getting from the FAFSA. Because no one deserves more than American students from the US government. We give out our tax payers money to everyone, so I'd like to know who much they get every year in scholarships and support.

What a waste of tax money.
If you are here illegally, go home!
If you are here at all, speak English, this is America.
This is another example of a waste of taxpayer money.
It is time to deport ALL illegal immigrants, and start enforcing existing laws.

Yes that what illegals are here to do, pick lettuce and any other job that allows the u.s elite to maintain their position, but their children are native-american.
Lydia stop hating because you make too much money or not enough or maybe your children are don't have great grades. The political motto is the land of opportunity, the American dream, the pursuit of hapiness. 3 generations "american" does that mean white Anglo or Hispanic or something else. Because your ethnicity also determines your opportunities. You should not have more opportunities because you have been here longer. That is always a good way to make excuses. By the way america is from Canada to Argentina, aqui estamos en estados unidos de america. So American students from migrant workers are getting the help from our US government. Somos muchos para que nos saquen asi es que vayan acostumbrandose.

It is a simple concept really. If you obey the laws of our country you are welcome with open arms. If you don't and live off the rest of us, then throw it back in our faces we tend to get a bit of righteous indignation.
By the way, if you assume I am caucasian you would be incorrect.

Here's a direct quote from the story: "These students must show a significant economic need, as well as be strong academically, and must be either a citizen or legal resident." They also must be fluent in English to attend NMSU. I am guessing they are fluent in multiple languages. It comes to down motivation and talent, and they have it. Not like these cry-baby knee-jerk ditto-heads worried about Obama's birth certificate.

What did I say that was "hating" Im simply asking how much they get, is that not a fair question? Im just saying 3 generations in case someone came out and said I must be here illegally and make stupid comments back like you. I do not expect more, but I sure as helllll do not expect less as a tax paying citizen, to have my children receive less because they are not migrants. Your argument makes no sense at all. Did I say migrant workers should NOT get help? NO I said they should not get more.

Lydia "hating" is stupid, you are right. but the children of migrants have less because their parents have less money so govt. gives more. so if you make more money govt. Gives less money. I think it all washes out. By the way the comments about illegal don't change whether u are here 3 or whatever generations. If I see a brown skinned person I can't tell if they are legal or not. El nopal no se nos quita.
Mcfly, Who is throwing it back in your face? They are living off us? Where do I sign up? Where is the sign? O ya no entiendes espaņol y te dicen porque no hablas espaņol

This is also New Mexico one of two bilingual states in the union by the way of the state constitution. Educate yourself, before you speak. I don't agree with illegal immigration, but retard comments about "This is America, speak American god damn it!" hillbilly rhetoric gets old.

Ok so, I still would like to know if they receive more or less than say a poor white kid from Apalachia or a poor black kid from Jackson Mississippi or a poor hispanic kid from El Paso who has the grades to go to college. They get the FAFSA, which I think is still around $4500 the first year and around $5000 each subsequent year. If they get the same, fine. If they get more, I'm not good with it. There are people in the USA that have as little as many of the migrant workers, so all I want to know is if these kids are being helped and supported as well. I'm not denying any of the migrant workers kids anything, just asking if the American kids are getting the same. its a legitimate question.

if they are performing better, meet all the criteria, and need more assistance, then it is justified.

ok, let me re-phrase this again. If a migrant workers child has the same academics and the same need as an american student, do they get more money, the same money or less money. I would hope the same, and would hope not more. Just because someone is American doesnt mean they dont have as much need as a migrant workers kid.

IF A NATION IS TO KEEP ITS SOVERGNITY IT NEEDS TO CONTROL ITS BORDERS.IF BORDERS ARE NOT CONTROLLED
AND ILLEGAL ALLIENS ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE POWER ON
GOVERNMENT DECISIONS THEN CITIZENS OF OTHER NATIONS
WOULD BE ABLE TO ADVERSLY AFFECT THE RIGHTS AND CHOICES OF LEGITIMATE CITIZENS.
RESOURCES FOR WELL BEING ARE PLANNED AND IF OUTSIDE
FACTORS COME INTO PLAY THEN TAXPAYERS ARE FORCED TO
COMPETE FOR SUCH RESOURCES WITH OTHER PEOPLE WHICH DO NOT HAVE RIGHT TO THEM.

I thought the bilingual myth had been debunked many times over. Also "hillbilly rhetoric"? Is there a need for that type of racism?
