And this is exactly why my wife and I insisted on having a judge officiate our "legal" wedding before having our private ceremony.

I never knew you could do that, that's a surprise to me. What does bother me was the way the report was written--since when are our counties run by clerks, and why do they label them "liberals"? What is that supposed to mean? We don't like what's going on, so these people must be liberals (like it's a bad word) It is a way of being condecending towards the public and I don't like it. I may believe in a more traditional wedding but why should the state care? The license fee has been paid.
