The Bad, Good, and Ugly
The BAD are those that did not respond immediately when the first report of a violation of the “two-deep” policy was made. At a minimum the Northern Star Council should have these policy violators prepare and present continuing education programs on what they did wrong and how they should have correctly responded. When they have completed this process, create an “I Know How to Respond and Prevent” merit badge. The GOOD are: 1.) Law Enforcement and County Attorney who have correctly, progressively and wisely responded to the family’s and children that reported to them - stopped the child abuser – reached out to the family’s and children still silent about abuse – and engaged all businesses/institutions/organi zations with associations to the abuser to stand up and assist victim outreach efforts. 2.) The loud and clear social awareness and continued knowledge building the County Attorney has brought to the citizens of Dakota County, the State of Minnesota and the USA about childhood sexual abuse reporting and prevention. 3.) 99.9% of the people that have been made aware of these tragic childhood sexual abuse crimes – believe the victims. 4.) These victims will have support, recovery and healing processes provided immediately. Processes which will hopefully identify and greatly reduce the life long damages and negative dynamics of childhood sexual abuse. The UGLY is: We have a long way to go before childhood sexual abuse is the primary social sickness in our society. |

oops: We have a long way to go before childhood sexual abuse IS NOT the primary social sickness in our society. |

What type of parent allows their children to be put into the hands of a perpetrator of sexual crimes and not instill the wherewithal to report it immediately?
Parents have a responsibility to their children beyond their assumptions that institutions based on faith and discipline are inherently good. The world is filled with evil people, including churches, youth associations and law enforcement. |

1 I agree that eveil does does run in every facet of society, but those institutions that are based on faith and discipline are inherently good. It's the twisted evil that will find its way to where the children are (youth sports, scouting, private/public schools etc). You can't live a life avoiding evil. You have to teach your children to recognize the signs and confront it. What bothers me the most is when I hear of a child that has been sexually exploited multiple times by the same offender. In many cases it lasts for months and even years. Find the twisted seed and then extinguish it before it has a chance to procreate. Handle it with a 45 and a shovel! |

1 Yep, we need to get rid of all the Boy Scout leaders, bus drivers and volunteers who work with children. Then the children will be safe. Of course, we have to get rid of the teachers, etc., as well. Homeschooling, like in the olden days! |

1 Apparently it was the boys he was after. Time to get rid of gay scout leaders. |

1 Where does it say that they knew about violations of Two-Deep but failed to respond? Further, adults don't earn merit badges, only scouts do. So, your idea for a merit badge is ludicrous. Why are you commenting when you are so ignorant? |

1 The Boy Scouts already ban homosexual adult leaders. Their position on this has cost them $millions in financial support from such as the United Way and Target. |
