Yeah, she got away just in time, she nearly had a nervous breakdown. Lives in Cherokee Village now, or that is where she moved to. Hope she is very happy now. What a scallywag he is!

In need of a new mayor with some new ideas for this town. "That that doesn't grow dies" a quote people should think about. Why is it that anybody who is anybody leaves this town when they graduate from school. Some people do come back, but we need more jobs so more people will come back to their home town.

Wouldn't it be nice if we had a mayor who had a stake in improving and growing the city of salem instead of just collecting a pay check.

It is scary just found this site and hate to see that all the comments made about Salem are so negative. I am kind of excited to see a place where these issues can be debated.

I am for one not happy with the current mayor and city council. Sometimes we need to remember that it is not only the mayor that makes decisions for the city but also the city council.

It is deplorable the state or city is in right now. Just take a drive around the city of salem sometime and tell me what you think.

Mr. Clayton has been mayor for how many years? Is it not time for someone motivated to see the city thrive, adding jobs, improving infrastructure, enforcing the laws, and generaly caring for the needs of our citizens and their families.

I think his time has run its course.

IT is TIME for some of you motivated people to run for Mayor, I have heard him say that if someone would run, he wouldn't. And I agree that the city council needs an overhaul, complete.

The city is too far gone for one member of the city council to make a difference. Bringing in jobs for example is next to impossible. What do you have to market? And to who? No one is going to buy local with prices that are not comparable to big store chains. The only hope you have is to pull something like Hardy. As far as the mayor, maybe a change would be good....maybe not. I sure would like to see a new sheriff though.

One issue is we don't need to get to concerned with creating jobs in retail right now. Think about it if everyone in town is selling something or providing a sevice to each other where is the money actually coming into town instead of just trading. We need to find some manufacturing jobs. I have been thinking about one thing that may be a good idea. I heard that the owner of the old nursing home sold that building to the city or county one for like a dollar or something. So far I have not seen them utilize that building. Why hasn't someone got off there ass and found a company and say hey you do the maintenance and provide x amount of jobs and you can lease the building for a dollar a year. Give incentive to get a manufacture or two to come to town. Then retail and services will naturally grow.

I talked to a guy the other day who said he would consider running for mayor if he felt like there where people out there willing to support him. He is a very buisiness minded person and works hard. Does anyone think Mr. Clayton can be beat.

How about making it into a better jail! Use the buildings that tax dollars paid for like the old shirt factory,or the plastic factory and put manufacturers in there. But thats too much to ask from our mayor or chamber of commerce. They like it like this so they have control!

Yes we are in dire need of a new jail but I have somewhat given up hope on that. Without a sherrif with some good common sence knowledge of law enforcement and political savy we are doomed to lose our jail.

In response to your other statement I don't think it has to stay this way. We just need to find motivated people to be civic leaders here. I was born here and live in salem now and have seen little if any changes in my lifetime. And by the way Mr. Clayton has been mayor most of that time.
We have a seriously neglected infrastucture. Take a drive around town after a heavy rain and I know its not that expensive to replace a culvert. Maybe when he is not busy bieng a probation officer he could get on the city's backhoe and change one out. Also look at some of the abandoned and neglected properties around town. Do they add any value to our neighborhoods and there are programs used by other cities to combat these issues. I don't know what he is getting paid but if you ask me it is too much and he has been in there wy to long.

Thinking you should think harder the Mayor has to have a real job since our SMALL town cant have a full time mayor. Our Small town cant get all those nice programs you speak of. Infrastucture well go drive around other SMALL towns and then check your facts. To answer the first guestion no he wont get beat if he runs. If i was him i would not run due all you folks that grip and dont care about what you do have. Try to run this town see how long you last. lord knows TOPIX needs fresh meat.

I don't have a problem with Mr. Clayton having another job. That does not mean that we should not have a mayor who is willing to devote some time and energy to bettering our town. Those programs I speak of don't cost anything. Maybe I should have phrased that differently. There are many things we can do such as some code enforcement that can improve our town. And I have drove around many other small towns we have some right here close by that are flat nicer than ours. It is sad that you can sit idly by and not desire to see improvements. I don't have one problem with Mr. Clayton as a person or as our "past" mayor. I do feel that it is time someone with fresh ideas, strong work ethic, and a stake in seeing our town prosper was leading.

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Capricorn

You're feeling edgy as Mars moves into reverse, and it won't be long before people start to get on your nerves. You might get very irritated by someone's funny little habits, yet feel you daren't say anything in case you go overboard. Or you could get very annoyed when someone blurts out something that was supposed to be a secret but which quickly becomes common knowledge.
