To most officers Sgt Rinella doesn't need a squad to take home he doesn't get called out very much if at all for accidents. So to most officers it appears to be wrong,(but not illegal) and that Sgt Rinella is getting preferential treatment from the chief. Who we all know is his friend and neighbor. The other two radar officers are also accident investigators so someone else would be on duty or even called out before Sgt Rinella. I don't know the exact mileage but Sgt Rinella can just drive from his home to the station and pick up his assigned squad if called out. It cant take more then five minutes from his home to the PD. Detectives don't even have a assigned squad to take home and they work on much more time sensitive cases. There really is no reason for Sgt Rinella to start at 5am. He is the supervisor of Radar and the other officers start at 8am and 4pm so Sgt Rinella should start at 8am too. Its still straight days which every officer would love to have. This way Sgt Rinella can supervise the 8am officer and assign the 4pm officer. Sgt Rinella doesn't write citations for overweight anymore, he used to and started at 6am. If he still wrote citations then probably nobody would complain about that time. Sgt Rinella does some other administrative duties like uniform allowances, squad repairs and parking tickets. All of these tasks can be done after 8am. If an officer needs uniform or equipment then the perfect time for Sgt Rinella to start would be at 8am-4pm then the midnight shift can see him after their shift and 4pm-12am officer can see him at 3:30pm when they report for duty. This just makes more sense. Auto repair shops don't open at 5am they open at 7-7:30am and the day shift starts at 8am and they are the ones that generally bring the squads for repairs. So these are just some of the reasons that Sgt Rinella is getting flack on this blogg.

Well another years is coming to an end and hope and change in 2013. Except for the Melrose Park Police Department. This coming year will still be like all the rest clout positions and unsolved crimes. 100% out of control. All shift officers will now have to rotate shift and our days off all except the clout positions. Animal Control is outdated and should be put back on a shift. There is no reason that Lichter should have weekends off and work only days. The Radar Unit should also be put back on a shift there should be a radar officer on all three shift. Traffic enforcement should be supervised on all three shift so they all should rotate too but that would mean Rinella would have to rotate all three shifts to make the radar division a real unit not just clout officers. Plus Rinella would have to hive back the car. Which by the way no other officer in the entire Melrose Park Police Department has. Now that the regular police officer will now have to work all three shift which is okay that's what we signed up for when we decided to be police officers all but the whinny lil bitches that say they cant work midnight because of their families. If you cant work all three shifts then quit. The police department doesn't need police officers like you that are going to cry about working a shift.

I heard that lichter the dog catcher got caught with his pants down spanking his monkey by the sppd in the Play Pen parking lot. Did that little weazel finally get arrested or was he let go again? When will the police dept get rid of that pervert?

I was walking home from school one day when dog officer lichter asked if I wanted to see his monkey. He said he can make his monkey spit. So I told my mommy that dog officer wanted to show me his monkey. She said stay away from a manís monkey. She said lichter is a bad man I should run if I see him.

Lets all take time to reflect on the tragic cold blooded murder of a former dedicated public servant Sgt Ronald Susek. His murder occurred right in the middle of a peaceful residential neighborhood and it appears that it will go unsolved. Sgt Susek doesn't deserve to be remembered as a cold case. The Melrose Park Police Department should bring Sgt Susek's killer(s) to justice. If this case continues to go unsolved then Chief Pitassi should start looking into a revamping of the Melrose Park Police Department. Not just rotating shifts but a real revamping utilizing manpower to it maximum potential.I can only hope and pray that the Melrose Park Police Department does the right thing in the upcoming new year.

Very well said.

Let's all pray that the MPPD starts to care more about police work and begins to take their jobs as public servants seriously. Certain officers have to remember that they are police officers hired to serve and protect the community not just serve themselves.

Will this help solve/reduce crime? Will this help the department solve Ronnie's murder

Yes more officers on the street patrolling at the times they are suppose too. Improper use of police personnel to suit there own selfish needs doesn't help. If the department wasn't full of clout officers then maybe they would solve a crime.

You're all right on here.....Blah Blah Blah. Here's a factoid, Ronnie is still dead from being shot in his backyard and a crime scene was botched from the get go. Also, why wasn't the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force called into action? Their truck is parked right inside the Melrose Park electrical department building at Division & 25th, minutes from the scene.
