Blagojevich needs to join the real world. I think he must secretly be a socialist.
Truthfully this is just a political ploy so that he can have something to hide behind because he would have to break his promise to not raises taxes. This totally circumvents the political process. He is using this mass transit funding crisis as a way to build re-election reasons (fat chance that will happen). Basically, he is using tax payer money to build his only image - in reality he cares nothing for seniors in so much as this move is hoped to buy him votes.

Dear Mr. Blagorat,

You're still a horrible person. How about providing free transportation for students? Trust me I won't forget in 2 years. You'll get booted unless everyone is blind to how horrible of a governor you are you lousy stinking gluteus maximus kisser!

First Blago says 10 to 15 Million, then 20 Million. Some experts say 40 Million. What about fraud? An elderly person gives her card to her daughter for the week. How will Blago enforce his new plan. So Blago wants to raise the sales tax so he can turn around and let senoirs ride for free. Then Blago says well we might have to increase fares sometime in the near future. Lets be honest for a change. They cannot afford a 20 million annual loss.

God, will these please indict and arrest this mental midget already?!

Just when you think he cannot make a dumber move, here ya go. Now lawmakers will back off support of the RTA funding, which barely passed, and the doomsday will go into effect. All for his little bid to get re-elected.

Unbelievable.

This is pathetic. I doubt any of us mind a sales tax increase to bail out the CTA by itself as much as we mind it with the added burden of 800,000 free riders.
Thanks, Blago. I just moved here, but my first vote for IL governor will not be for you.

This is one of around three or four news reports from various places that I have seen which interviewed seniors for their opinions on this. Yet none of these articles asked senior citizans who do not take public transportation for their opinions. Why is that? Do people think this doesn't affect them (who are the overwhelming majority of people in that age catagory)? It most certainly does affect them. The governor said he is doing this in order to lesson the burdon of the sales tax increase (yes, the 25 cent per 100 doller sales tax increase). Everyone in Cook, Will, Dupage, Lake, and McHenry counties(and I am probably forgetting one) will pay the increase in the sales tax. How would giving transit rides free to people who don't use public transportation lessen the burdon of the sales tax increase for them? I would bet a huge amount of those seniors are pretty angry that those who happen to live in a place where public transportation is convienent can now move around whenever they want, as often as they want, for free. Yet they are stuck with increasing gas prices just like the rest of us. Nobody is going to give them a car and its gas for free just because they are a senior. I would really like to hear what the opinions of these seniors are. Yet it doesn't occur to any media organization to interview them when they are doing a story on how seniors feel about this.

Blagojevich is a liar and a political panderer and cannot and should not be trusted. The inexplicable thing is that he will dig in his heels and hold his breath till he turns blue like the spoiled brat he is. Unfortunately, he's willing to hold the working world hostage with public trans with an obvious ploy to divert attention from his growing problem with the Federal government investigating hiring, pay to play and who knows what else with his administration.

Free Rides for Seniors a political ploy? How could anyone possibly come to that conclusion especially after watching Rappin Rodney get down in front of the congregation and rhyming his way out of the Chicago area transit crisis?
RB is a statesman with rhythm and my candidate for MAN OF THE YEAR. And as a senior I love getting something for free, especially at the expense of my fellow citizens. Yes I know there is no such thing as a free lunch and the ride is not really free, but I won't be paying for it - the rest of you will be picking up the tab. Thanks Rob! Now what other goodies have you got for me ? My hand is out and my vote is waiting to be bought?

I hate Blagojevich but I don't understand the seniors' question here. Elderly people who need the complimentary tickets, take it. If you don't need it, pay for your ticket. This is obviously designed to make it possible for needy people to get the help they need without needing to go through hoops to get it (ie. fill out all this paperwork and you'll get reimbursed for your transportation). Just because it's available doesn't mean you have to take it.

To the student who is upset -- you can get student loans, seniors can't. And it's much easier for you to work for your income than it is for a senior, so how do you figure you need this as bad as seniors do, much less need it more than they do?

Helping poor seniors is socialist? So is social security, then.

Do your homework. Most community colleges offer free tuition for seniors.

This idiot mental midget is living in a fantasy own world, if he thinks he can buy enough votes to get re-elected or elected to ANY OFFICE. This is the END of his ELECTED political career. And God help the politican that appoints him to ANYTHING. Not even the machine can resurrect this dead horse.

Absurd! Playing politics over sound fiscal policy. The CTA needs every dime to keep the buses running. There is no need to subsidize wealthy elderly people who have greater means to pay the fares than the working poor. Any free fares to the elderly need to be bases on financila means.

What secret!! Everything he has done since being elected has shown him to be a socialist.
