"Donna Ewing, founder of Hooved Animal Rescue and Protection Society, or HARPS, in Barrington Hills, said she has had to turn away dozens of horse owners who have asked her to take their horses because they no longer can afford to..."

Then why has Ms. Ewing allowed Elko Dann, HARPS ambassador stallion,to breed with a mare for money?

Everyone is feeling the crunch. Sell the horses , they are not a necessity. Its that easy!

If you could afford to have a horse in the first place I don`t feel sorry for you. If you can`t afford it now, either sell it or kill it and eat it.

If you can't afford your horse now then you were barely affording it before. Just because you love the animal doesn't mean you should own one. That's the worst animal cruelty to own a pet and not be able to take care of it. Shame on you horse owners who are now asking for someone else to take over your bad decision. It's the same as those who bought a house without enough money to pay for the mortgage every month. This is what helped bring our economy down. People with too much credit who will never pay it off.

Too bad they closed the slaughterhouse in Dekalb. Now you have to send them out of the country to be processed.

That is too bad. However, you could probably look it up online how to slaughter your horse...

I am sure if you post a sign in local stores there would be people that would take your horse for you and give it a good home.

Just give forth some EFFORT. There are people that have beautiful ranches and healthy horses.. Look around you!
