This is sad but distrubing. This guy was supposed to be a leader, a guidance for others. He must have done something wrong he just couldn't live with. Just a guess.

Why must he have done something wrong? A Pastor takes on the personal problems of his entire congregation. Just the problems of the church itself can be quite overwhelming--budget, growth, attendance, and so on. I am only a board member at our church, and it's a tough battle. My heart sank when it was announced at our church.

OK, if he did not do something wrong, then there was an error in judgement for choosing this person as a leader. Problems as you describe require a person of strength and character.

Depression is not about what is wrong or right or what's going on in someone's life. Depression is a disease, a disease which leads people to make decisions that others would consider strange, exaggerated or inappropriate. Suicide is a tragedy, and those who choose that path should not be judged, only missed.

Bullshit. He was a weak leader and let the ones who looked up to him for that leadership down.

We have people, doctors, social workers, who specialize in helping with dissease's like depression and mental illness.

Yes it is a tragedy when this happens, but suicide is the COWARD's way out especially for someone who is supposed to be a leader and looked up to. All he did was hurt a lot of people by doing this.

Political correctness, notwithstanding.

Your level of compassion and understanding truly amaze me, Seymore.
Unfortunately, your level of ignorance does not.

And your level of stupid political correctness and fear of saying the truth is what is the real ignorant issue.

As usual, you call ignorance something you don't agree with, hiding behind all those touch-feely things instead of dealing with truth. I have compassion for many, but not for those who take it to a level that does not see past their own nose. Like you.

What was that you said:

"...suicide is the COWARD's way out..."

You're right Seymore, I have absolutely NOTHING to support my assessment of you being ignorant. How about this one:

"...We have people, doctors, social workers, who specialize in helping with disease's like depression and mental illness..."

You don't think that the notion that just because we have Mental Health Specialists depression and other disorders will be miraculously cured isn't ignorant? At the very least it's naive. A very low number of people who are in therapy for depression are ever "cured". The best most can hope for is to be maintained.

No, Seymore, you show nothing in your posts that hints at truth. You don't like "...all those touchy-feely things..." because you're not allowed to call people "weak" or "cowards" or other names without looking like an unfeeling, bigoted, ignoramus. You are an anachronism, a representative of an age long, gone by, where "Men were Men" and life was viewed in black and white, right and wrong.
But the World has grown up around you Seymore, and we have learned that the world isn't black and white, but varying shades of grey. Someone who commits suicide isn't "deficient" or "cowardly", they're sufferers of depression and/or other mental health disorders; people who are in need of treatment, not scorn, pity or disdain.

Warm your heart Seymore, before you're left out in the cold.

so preachy. Get a pulpit. Don't kill yourself like this one did. Hopefully you are stronger and won't fool the ones who believe in you. You are so naieve and pathetic to the real world.

You waste my time and I never really completely read your drivel because you are so self-righeously irrelelvant to the world. Try to stay on your meds and you will be OK. Oh, and keep supporting sexual perversion while you are at it and calling everyone around you who is not repulsed by behaviors such as that and might just believe in God and be straight bigots. We're not and we are wise to that method of arguement.

My wife is very alive, I am not lonely, and I tell it how it is. I'm not as young as I once once but I am cool with that. Yes, I said it is a tragedy this guy took his life. I said it at the beginning. I also said people were duped with this person as a leader like many are duped all of the time. Like you voting for Blago twice I am sure.
If you think the pastor is happier now you are so full of shit it comes out of your pores. Choosing death was a coward's way out. And his family is possibly at fault for not intervening.

Seymore, you wouldn't know the real world if it came up and shook your hand and said, "Pleased to meet you." You have deluded yourself into formulating this fantasy about what the "real world" is, and the delusion goes so deep I don't know if you can ever be fully rescued from it.
The man killed himself. It's not about strength or weakness, it's about depression. It's a tragedy. Stop trying to prove your manhood at everyone else's expense.
Seymore wrote:

You waste your own time. You don't have to come on these threads and try to show everyone how much of a man you are. But you choose to do so. You lash out at anyone who challenges your pre-conceived notions and then become downright irate when they use facts to show you where you're wrong. If you feel this is a waste of your time, do everyone a favor and stop coming on Topix.

The wise learn from others. Your choice to ignore those who would call you a bigot only serves to deepen your ignorance. You are a bigot, Seymore. You have an unsubstantiated hatred for those who engage in lifestyles with which you disagree.
Actually, I take that back - you're less of a bigot than an anachronism. The things you say and your he-man posturing were popular a long time ago. Times have changed, Seymore. It's in your best interests to recognize that.

The level of compassion you have is truly astounding Seymore. I'm glad that there's "real men" in the world like you to show us the True Way.

No. Why? Are you going to defend now why he killed himself because you did? Go ahead. I'm listening. Waiting to see if you can try to make suicide rational. Especially for someone who is supposed to be a person of faith and a person who is sought out to be a leader.

No one here has ever attempted to say that suicide is rational. If that's what you think, then you're clearly not listening.

But what people are trying to make you understand is that those who attempt and/or succeed at suicide are not "weak" as you would view them, but rather they're sick, just the same as anyone else with a mental disorder.
