Shameful tactics by Lake schools

The Lake Local Board of Education is again trying a levy-vote-in-the-dark approach to pass a construction bond issue and a permanent improvements levy, bundled together as Issue 1.

The board had a study conducted, and the recommendation was to have a special election on Feb. 3.

This would ensure the smallest voter turnout with as little publicity as possible. Working with pro-levy interests would greatly increase the probability of passage.

This was the same tactic they used in passing the permanent operating levies that raised my taxes over $650 per year just two years ago.

This tactic will also depress the senior vote, as many of them will be wintering in warmer climates.

Again, shame on the Lake Local Board of Education for not having the guts to put this levy on the general or primary ballot.

The state courts have declared the school-funding formula unconstitutional, but our elected officials have neglected their duty to come up with an acceptable and equitable plan.

As long as these tactics are used, I will actively work for the defeat of any future school levies.

I agree with you 100%. The voters need to be made aware! How can we get the word out to everyone that this needs to be voted down?

Once upon a time I supported every school levy they requested. I was proud of my community and our schools. That was, until that last passed levy. When the school board deliberately put the levy on the ballot in February when most of the seniors of our area were out of state. And then they anticiapted the posssible repeal and blocked it, that was the bitter end. I will fight every levey and every issue for the schools from now on. There is no more support for these schools......that old biblical saying of "they know not what they do", applies here.
