Tax lien sale nets $5.5 million for Summit County

Summit County had its second-highest tax lien sale ever last week, raising more than $5.5 million.

That money — along with $1 million raised from an earlier sale — will be distributed to schools, municipalities, libraries and other entities that missed out on revenue because property owners didn’t pay their taxes, county Fiscal Officer Kristen Scalise said Friday.

The Akron school district will receive the largest amount:$1.7 million. The others in the top five are: county Developmental Disabilities agency,$436,288; city of Akron,$426,507; Nordonia Hills school district,$230,653; and Hudson school district,$227,838.

Ohio law allows counties to sell tax-lien certificates to investors, who then go after the unpaid taxes. Investors charge the property owners the principal and interest to clear the lien.

If the owner doesn’t pay, the investor can foreclose after a year.

I'M BUYING THE LIEN ON STARRY'S SHACK AND MAKE HER VOTE FOR EVERY DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE!

For the same reason you voted for obammy you are a foolish fool Tyree.
Hey dumbass, Tyree here is the reason, of course you'd never understand, you're too stupid..........

Investors charge the property owners the principal and interest to clear the lien.

The company buys the houses for nothing, they sell them along with the tax liens with them. The question is, where did the people become unable to pay their taxes,(was it when they lost their home?) At a time when they can't afford house payments, the city upped the taxes.

What I haven't figured out yet, is when you can't make a house payment, how can you afford to pay the rent? If you sit down, divide the taxation per year by twelve, how much are you paying beside the house payment a month.

The real scam is that while the county office is telling you to apply for assistance under HARP,they bogusly re-acess your property value, (upped mine by 50%) then sell the lien certificate out from under you before you can get a response on HARP--even if HARP approves, they would go directly to the auditors office and see a balance of $0 because they sold the lien certificate at a 50% higher value then the lien company adds 18% on top of that...its deceitful and effects the people that are struggling most...criminals

that's pretty f**ked! Wherever there's somebody starving and losing their house, there's a banker getting rich from it. With the help of the state!
I'm wondering why Hudson schools get any of it. They don't need it as bad as other schools in Scummit county.
