When did Harts become such a horrible place to live, I'm about half ashamed to say that this is my home town. I grew up in Harts and what I remember, it wasn't this bad. I currently live in Boston and I came home this week to visit my mother and I heard all these things about all the robberies on Big Harts, just houses away from my mothers home, the drugs, the man being beaten to death, and everything. It's scary for me, to know that mother lives alone here. People say that it's everywhere, but honestly, this is horrible. Like I said, I live in Boston and Harts has topped everything that i've ever seen. lol. I was embarassed to bring my boyfriend home to see where I grew up. It's crazy. I'm in my early 20's and I wanted to move back here later in life, after school and all that to raise a family. That's not going to happen. I'm thinking about moving my mom up to Boston with my boyfriend and I. It seems to me, that the police around here is a joke. Complete and udder joke. People need to do something. I'm telling ya. lol.

I agree with you. It was bad when I lived there 4 years ago, but I moved away after my brother was killed, and it's only gotten worse. But, there are some on here that will totally down you and ridicule you for saying what you said..truth or not. Granted there are some good people in Harts, I still have family there, but come on people, that part of Lincoln County is a joke, and as the post above me says...the police are a joke. If people wanted something different around them, around their family and friends, and especially around their kids, every time they knew of someone doing something wrong they'd pick up the phone and call the police. And if the police dont do anything about it, pick up the phone and call someone else. The police in Hamlin do have people over them, and there is a way to get in touch with them. Call the Governor's office.. Call the Attorney General's office. Surely there is a way to put a stop to what's going on in Harts, instead of just turning your head like it didnt happen. I do understand if you call and report the ones breaking the law, stealing from people, using and selling drugs, it will come back on you, but you dont stop there.. You continue to call someone. Take a stand in your town, make a difference. This whole forum is full of people that live in Harts, complaining and whining about things that happen and people that live there. Dont like it, either move or do something about it. I didnt like it there, I didnt like some of the people that live there, so I moved away from it, and I havent been back in over 4 years.

There is not much to do in Harts if you are a teenager. Ever since they closed Harts high school I do believe the old town has got worse. Drugs, drunks, and wackos now outnumber the good people of Harts Creek. The state of West Virginia. should be ashamed to take one of their famous little towns like Harts and just about ruin it by closing the heart of their community ( the old school) I do believe the community of Harts will never recover from the closing of the old school, Shame on the politicians, the State BOE, and all the big wheels who screwed Harts Creek.

It's like everyone has taken to going out of town for what they need. There's nowhere cheap and decent to get a haircut. There's no car wash. The clinic is useless. I can never get me or my family in there whether it's a toothache or sick. There is no reason to drive all the way to the ER or Lincoln Primary with a million dollar facility in our doorway.
Enough of the Pizza places already!

I largely agree with the original post on this thread but it also offers some bad information. Crime IS likely worse here than it used to be. Basically, you have too many people in Harts who are unemployed, on drugs, and thieving from neighbors. Being unemployed is not a crime, of course, but it factors into the other two problems. Crime is different in a small town than in a place like Boston. For instance, the crime rate in Boston is actually quite high. According to one website, "The city violent crime rate for Boston in 2010 was higher than the national violent crime rate average by 123.83% and the city property crime rate in Boston was higher than the national property crime rate average by 8.87%." You can see more along these lines here at this site: http://www.cityrating.com/crime-statistics/ma... In a small town like this, you usually know your enemies. You also know who the thieves are and so it seems worse than it really is because everybody knows everybody. The biggest problem I see in living here is unemployment and drug use. Statistically, in terms of crime, it still beats Boston. lol.(Remember the Boston Strangler?) Of course, Harts does not have any of the good things offered by Boston -- museums, malls, and so forth. Unfortunately, most of our best people move away to find jobs and so we are left with only a few good people and mostly a bunch of losers and check-drawers. We have a drain on our population every generation.

Excuse me but harts never had anything in it. You had to travel far just to go shopping and buy groceries, wake up earl. I don't know how old you are but my memories of harts had nothing and still has nothing except for a few decent neighbors.

I am an elderly person and I have lived here all my life. I have seen our country go through many Presidents, through Buffalo Creek flood, the coal strikes, and more tragedies than that. I have lost alot of loved ones and faced alot of grief. I have to say that the people in Harts sure ain't what they used to be because before we all stuck together. Each other our families worked together for firewood and crops and we took care of each other through these hard times, coal strikes, and such but the people around here just don't seem to have the neighborly love they used to. The christians aren't living close enough to God and basing them and their children everyday living to God's beliefs. We just don't love one another as we once did. Like someone will write on facebook to tell someone congratulations or hope they get well soon besides picking up a phone and saying it yourself. The great people and neighbors always made it great to live in Harts

No no. You can compare anything. In a larger sense, no place in WV or the South is comparable to Boston. But in terms of crime, certainly, the comparison can be made. But there is certainly no place in our area, meaning none of our backwoods towns in this area, comparable to any city.
