Wednesdays changing for students, teachers

"Wednesday's child is full of woe.' That lyric from the popular nursing rhyme might be a little less true in Lincoln County, following last week's general approval by the board of education for a significant change to the countywide school schedule.

This is the worst idea that I've heard of, and it is inconsiderate to the working families of Lincoln County! Although, most people don't work in Lincoln County. Why not have the teachers stay an hour over or come in an hour early? Disrupting the children's schedule is not a good idea! Bravo to the people who came up with this idea!

Children can still come in at regular time if they want or they can SLEEP in an extra hour.... I love the idea.... I wished it was on Friday or Monday though

I must agree, this was a stupid idea. It would have worked out a lot better if we could get out an hour early on Fridays.

I couldn't agree more this was a terrible idea! Looks like there needs to be some changes made from the top to the bottom! Was this the only solution possible? What were the other options? I hate to think this was the only choice! Bad for the students, parents, and good for only the teachers! Students should come first!

110% agreed. I dont feel the students were taken into consideration. I keep hearing " the kids are happier to sleep in an extra hour"! It terribly messes with my childs schedule. I dont think this was thought through very well

Let me start with some facts:
**********
****1) A survey of sleep-deprived teens finds they think that a later start time for ... The survey of 280 high school students confirmed what most parents with ... elementary schools should start at 7:30 and high schools at 8:30 or 8:45 ...
2) It is now well established that teenagers have a tendency toward later bedtimes and rise times. Most high schools in the US have early morning
3) And should schools adjust the school schedule to meet their needs?... What's the point of getting up early if half the students are asleep by first period anyway?... I think it should start later. but not that late. you dont wanna cut school activities
4)Later School Start Times Improve Student Performance: Study ..... Maybe we should consider that the students might feel this way too
5)The headteacher of a Kent school says late starts are improving exam ...
This only took me about 10 min. to pull up the facts on my computer. So if you do your reach you will see that it is best for our children. No I do not work for LCBOE. I'm a working mom that is going to back anything that is going to improve my childs education.
I know that it is hard for most Lincoln County to do change. I also know that it is an inconvenience for us mothers that work. But the schools are allowing you to still drop your child off early.
So please look up what is best for our children and don't be selfish.

No one is being selfish except dumb asses like you! If you had to be at work at 6 am you wouldn't feel that way! Studies show that people who have to work have to be there early. So kids need to be there early because one day they will need to get their asses out of bed. Maybe you should too.

I am thinking of my child when wednesday night comes around and wont go to bed at usual time which makes it a hard Thursday morning. i was simply agreeing that this wasnt thought out 100% and should have allowed parents to vote as well. Some of us parents do not have someone to come put our child/children on the bus at the later time....... Im wondering i parents could push a vote to change this. Maybe an hour early out on Fridays would be a better decision. Just a few things to ponder over

The problem is no free child care right??? well I think it is a great idea, they said u can still drop your kid or kids off at regular time if needed.. playing period is for one teacher.. if you read the paper it said this is for all teachers to get together and plan!!!

From what I have witnessed, there isn't much planning being done. This has nothing to do with FREE CHILDCARE........ Some of LC parentd DO WORK OR GO TO SCHOOL. And plus when the children are on a schedule, it should not be messed with!!!!! Im sure the ones who sit home on their tail ends have nothing to worry about. Guess we all should sit home all day and do nothing!!!!!!! Not gonna happen
