Last week I talked an acquaintence into driving from up here (Mpls-St.Paul) down to a day spent at Arnolds Park/Okiboji/Lake Okiboji Salmon/farmland/etc. He returned and told me that he'd also driven over to Lake Park. We discussed the farms I grew up on Excelsior/Lake Park/Round Lake. During WWII I can recall that some businessmen from Lake Park helped with some field work for us. Art Bragg, Al Myrick, Dane Hansen, etc. From this discussion I began to wonder if anyone recalls the Lake Park News and whatever became of its archives?

As Randy (Sohn) and I were re-constructing Lake Park mainstreet in the '40s he spoke of "Art Bragg." I think he really meant Art Wright who ran the harness shop just up the street from the Lake Park News.(The shop with the big white horse in the window) Bragg's first name was not Art and I recalled it as Milan but thought maybe I was confusing his name with one of the twin sons (Milan and Milton?). Further checking established that he signed his editorials as T. Milan Bragg - we don't know what T. stood for and consequently still don't know his first name.

After talking to Alan the other night I also realized that I'd thought both editor Bragg and the harness-maker Art Wright were "Art". How'sum'ever I alao agree with Alan and really remember those editorials about "life in Lake Park". That column began with a quotation from Voltaire - "While I may not agree with what you say I will defend to the death your right to say it". Also have been talking to my cousin Bonnie Voss (nee Sohn), she also remembers it and wonders if the archives may possibly be at the new school in Lake Park. But also cannot think of his name other than T. Milan. Also thought of another one, G. C. Ruwe and his son, the ventriloquist.

A friend of mine forwarded this newspaper article to me and I will respond to the inquiries.
First, my Dad's name was Thomas Milan Bragg and he was the editor and publisher of the Lake Park News from 1932 until l963 when he had a stroke. He sold the newspaper to the Spirit Lake Beacon which have the "newspaper files".
My name is Charles Milton Bragg and my twin brother's name is Thomas Milan Bragg who happens to be 3 hours older than me.
Presently, we are living in the Black Hills of South Dakota in Belle Fourche, and have lived here for 15 years. Milan lives in the old Methodist Camp, now called Monarch Cove on West Okoboji in Spirit Lake.
We have a lot of great memories of Lake Park and community. By the way, I married Vicky Kroeger and Milan married Sharon Basler from Lake Park.
It is nice to have some interest in my Dad's newspaper career.

I would like to hook up with people from Lake Park. I have a twin brother David Taylor and we graduated from there 1962. I remember the Braggs. The ones I remembered had 2 daughters - 1 had diabetes and bad eye sight (she was older than me). Anyway I would like the Lake Park News if anyone knows anything about how to get it and its archives????? I live in Fort Worth Texas now - and retired.

The Lake Park news is no more. The closest link I've been able to find is through the lake park library which is now housed in the new school. But you have to join the website to get info off of it. I was actually looking for the spirit lake beacon which is no more also,

I went to school with Marliss (sp?) Bragg. She had twin brothers, one who seriously cut himself in the leg with an axe. I remember the news paper. The only one in the world that gave two hoots about Lake Park or something to that effect. Enjoyed reading it after we moved away to Calif.. I used to go watch them set type in prep. to print the paper. Most of the people I knew are in the grave yard including my dad. Will be back there in July & Aug. this year.

I went to school with your sister and Vicky. Vicky might remember me as Barry McDowell. My real first name is Jon. You sister went dancing with me back in 58 when I got out of highschool. I often wondered what happened to the various people in our class.

Daily Horoscope for December 18

Aquarius

You get the chance to prove how romantic you can be when the mood is right. Why not arrange a candlelit encounter with that very special person in your life. There's a strong possibility that you could become involved in a relationship that has to be conducted in secret or which you want to keep strictly private.
