I am sorry to hear about this. I think I know who it was and she was a hard worker and it should have never happened. She was such a nice woman.

My thoughts, prayers, and sympathies are fully extended to all of her family members and friends. If warranted, I hope the driver is charged appropriately as well, but, if this was an accident where she wasn't using a cross walk, I hope the driver of the vehicle is not persecuted and that both the driver and her family are able to grieve in peace and find comfort.

HOW SAD IS THIS, THAT POOR WOMEN. HER FAMILY, ALONG WITH THE DRIVER,ARE HURT FOR LIFE- NOT SURE WHAT DETAILS ARE, ABOUT THIS ACCIDENT, BUT, IT DOESN'T MATTER- A LIFE IS TAKEN. I WISH WE IN EAST HARTFORD CAN GET BACK TO PLANS THAT WERE STARTED YEARS AGO, AND THAT WAS TO TAKE TRUCKS AND MANY CARS ON A RE-ROUTE PLAN - A CONNECTOR WAS BUILT OFF RT 2 AND 84 - ENDING ON GOVERNOR ST.- THIS CONNECTOR WAS TO CROSS TRAFFIC PARALLEL TO MAIN ST. AND END ON RT 5 IN SOUTH WINDSOR. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE PLANS?

Definitely a reasonable attitude on your part. The way people jaywalk in Hartford and East Hartford is just as bad as drivers who jam through red lights. Another guy was run over on Main Street in East Hartford about a month ago... right in the middle of the block near Governor Street. He didn't bother to use a cross walk.I felt sorry for the driver that hit him. I am amazed that more don't get run over on Park Street in Hartford... they don't even bother looking first, they just walk into the street.

Try commuting into Hartford near the old state house. The buses drop the dot heads off and they jump in the middle of the road to cross with traffic screaming by. Maybe an ox in their native country won't hurt them, but my SUV will.

It's sad that this woman was killed, but I agree with your comments about the jaywalkers. I commute every day into Hartford and the pedestrians just seem to get worse and worse. The lights are green and there are cars coming and they step into the road and cross the street expecting all the cars to just stop. And they don't run across the street - they stroll!! Very slowly with the attitude. It's amazing more people aren't struck downtown.

Yes Joe, jaywalking means crossing the street illegally, i.e. not using a crosswalk.

The people on Park Street just walk across and street without looking because half of them are on their way to the welfare office and don't want to be late to pick up their monthly checks....yeah I know so sarcastic :)

Badger & Suburban Male: You are both racist idiots. I am a middle-aged, white female, and there are a ton of INDIANS (not 'dot heads') working at my major financial company. Shockingly, they are real, live decent human beings trying to better themselves and make a living. Want to blame someone for your problems that you see as their fault? Then try blaming the mainly older white male high-up executives who made the decision to bring them into the workplace. And FYI, the ones here work their butts off for more than 8 hours a day, don't whine and moan and bitch, and are decent individuals.
Get a clue, morons.
Gloria--I am glad for your positive attitude toward this demographic group. I have no issue with their work product or discipline. Perhaps the hard work will help solve the financial crisis we are in currently.

In the meantime, cross when the little "white guy is lit up" and not when you damn well please.

East Hartford lost the opportunity for a by-pass that would have eliminated
most traffic from this area. The State
had approved the by-pass and it was
ready to build, However, John Larson
your congressman decided he needed the
South Windsor votes who were against
this by-pass as it would hurt the snakes in the Swampy North Meadows, so
Larson voted to kill the by-pass.
Vote for Larson and his Family of
machine politicians again. East Hartford deserves all the dumping grounds they get, this is Machine
Politics. It's to late for East Hartford.

That's funny the ones I work with all sit together, only with each other, and take over the entire lunch room with stinky food.
They all live together in an apartment and send their money back to India.
Yeah, real nice folks !
and they treat women in the workplace like they are dirt.....not up to their level.
Let me guess...if you were working in a foreign country you would not be the least bit inclined to socialize with people who speak English, and you are so open minded that you would give up all American food and eat only local dishes only. You'd live by yourself so you could waste as much of your income as possible in a temporary situation. You're also so selfish that if you left your family behind you would not bother to send a cent back to them.

I am sorry for your loss. There are too many pedestrian-vehicle on this road. This year I've passed by two scenes after people have gotten hit, and I was inside a house further down Main Street when a woman was hit by a car and killed just outside. I did not know her but I am still moved by her death.

The size of the road encourages people to drive too fast, and at times there is way too much traffic. The number of lanes on that portion of Main Street is completely unsuitable for what is supposed to be a walkable commercial district.

Have no fear, John Larson will save you, he killed the By-pass bill that the state wanted to build a few years ago, for a few votes from South Windsor, for the few people who wanted save the swamp, the snakes, the turtles, and the view, but have no fear, the Gazette willkeep this a secret.

You can thank the tree hugging, swamp loving environmentalists for the stoppage of the much needed by-pass

I am sorry for what happened to your aunt. The one I feel the worst for is the innocent person who hit her. That person is going to have to live with your aunts lack of judgement for the rest of their life.

You obviously know where the DSS office is; do you frequent that location looking for your free handout; obviously I don't; I work for a living. What a concept
