Another gun violence. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REQUEST FROM CT POLICE CHIEFS, AS I UNDERSTAND IT, TO HAVE AMMUNITION SALES RECORDED WITH BUYER ID?
My understanding is that found casings on a crime scene could be traced to the buyer of the ammunition. It would be a big step in solving the crimes, too many gun crimes in CT.

While this may sound good in theory, I doubt it's efficacy in practice because very, very few - if any would be felons are waddling up to the counter at Hoffman's, whipping out their i.d. and platinum card to buy guns and ammo.
This is yet another example of legislation that encumbers the law abiding citizens while doing nothing much to end crime. It would be great if there were a simple solution to crimes like this, but there isn't.

this isn't the CSI tv show. A shell casing is just a piece of metal with nothing distinguishing it from every other shell casing ever made except for the obvious (caliber size and maybe a brand name if you're lucky).

manufacturers make the rounds in batches by the hundreds of thousands and then sell them in boxes of 20 - 100 rounds. Even if you had the names of everyone who purchased ammo (legally, that is -- criminals have a tendency to not follow the law) it would be impossible to take a shell casing and somehow determine which box of ammo it came from.

Amen to your response to another in a long list of asinine theories to prevent gun violence. All these pie-in-the-sky ideas ever really do is restrict the self-defense freedoms of law-abiding citizens like you and I. We are never going to "solve" violence, people. If guns are not available, people will use knives or bats; and, like you stated, the bad guys never seem to follow all your little gun laws anyway... In the meantime, keep the good guys armed.

Thats political not practical.
Not all firearms leave shell casing behind.
The problems is not guns its criminals.
A firearm is just a tool.
If you think the police can protect you,
just think about the Petitt family.
Btw
All handgun ammo used to be listed with an id.
after 25 years and 0 crimes solved nationwide in
was dropped.

I was raised in Connecticut and lived there for 25 years and LOVE and miss the state. It saddens me that any area there has turned into such a crime-ridden terrible place, just as Detroit was a while back. It is no secret that crime rates are increasing everywhere. Today I read that all Mexican drug cartels are quickly escalating their violence into the U.S. in all border states and beyond. They have already determined that in 2007 alone (only thru Sept., 9 mos. into w007) , Mexican druglords are responsible for over 2,100 murders that are directly drug-related. In our state, the rival gangs are growing rapidly and daily, recruiting kids who are 7, 8, 9 yrs. old and up because they are only charged with 'juvenile delinquency' instead of felonies. Recently I read where Detroit has been trashed, pillaged, raped, boarded up and they are trying to sell the buildings and home at the lowest rates imaginable with no takers. Please, nutmeggers, Connecticut is one of the most beautiful, picturesque, educated and perfect places on the planet. Hire more LAW ENFORCEMENT and make it known that you will not be SOFT ON CRIME. DRIVE OUT THE CRIMINALS. Today I'm thinking of my childhood autumns walking along crunching, fallen leaves with my friends after school on halcyon afternoons, the joyous blazes of color from vivid red sugar maples and the fragrance in the air of the end of summer, the slighly smokey aroma of fireplaces, the cobalt blue skies and mashed potato clouds. I don't want there to be shootings in the streets, throat slashings, muggings, carjackings and terrified people dodging bullets. Please bring back the beautiful Connecticut we knew and loved.

I grew up in New Britain and moved out 15 years ago when the two Polish punks started burning it.
Mount Pleasant's land is owned by Stanley Works with those long term land leases. The place should be bulldosed like Father Panick Village in Bridgeport. It has been nothing but a hot bed for crime, drug sales and murder. It is time for this area to meet its demise. It was formulated out of a post WWII mentallity and serves no useful purpose today other than a wholesale drug super market. Level it and the gangs will go elsewhere.

Heartwarming.
Now go spray paint the rear window of the car, print up some tee-shirts and do that candle, photo, alcohol spilling gathering with other gang banging drug dealers and convince each other that they're all good people. Until the next one gets a few slugs...
LOL you're a loser. Is your life perfect, were you born with a silver or (golden) spoons in your mouth. IF SO, maybe you should've choked on it. LOL LOL LOL. Now that would have been something to laugh about.

Lets make this clear, all you who pass judgement on this shooting did not know the 19 year old victim, Jose. Why do you assume. A sad death occured. People!someones life has been taken away. And all I have read on these post have been really mean and heartless things. I knew Jose and he was a great person who strived to get ahead. He was actually part of my family and just the other day we all went out together to share a few laughs and yesterday he was pronounced dead. It just makes me sad at the things some of you are capable of saying. Thankyou however to those who are stepping up for us the less fortunate. May he rest in peace and may those who have only negative things to say...stay at bay.
