Let me guess.

A video of this fight will be appearing on YouTube shortly.

Throw the book at the defendants. This type of behavior has to end.

You are such a "DUMMY". Didn't you just read a blog on Bullying in Enfield also. Why do you DUMB FOLKS continue to blame another town for your HOULIGANS CHILDREN who don't fight "FAIR". All you see today is kids jumping on another kid. It has to stop! EXPELL those two diliquents from the SCHOOL and the family of the child that was hurt should sue THE PARENTS then maybe just maybe it will stop. The teacher was probably overwhelmed by all the other shenanigans going on in a typical high school. It's not the teacher's job to stop fights. Where were the security guards or School Resource Officers?

Since when do you hear about Hartford students just randomly picking someone to beat them up...I've NEVER heard of such thing. The truth is that if you get beat up for any reason in a Hartford school is obviously because there is a problem between both parties and at times others may get involved, but they don't randomly pick anyone out of the crowd to beat them up for fun. As far as I'm concerned I hear more about these stupidity from kids out in Manchester, Vernon, etc. than in Hartford. Don't think that Hartford kids are the only bad kids around because they are not and they are being portrayed that way on a daily basis by the news but in all reality there are straight A students that care about their education and don't go out their looking for trouble. Don't blame all of Hartfords kids for one kids that probably didn't get the proper education from their parents because it all begins at home.

Margaret Hackett, wake up, "adolescents who, from time to time, err and get into altercations". This was a brutal beating! As long as you think this way the problems of Manchester schools will never be solved. Be a leader and do something about it!

Description of this as a "fight" sounds inaccurate. From the security tape it sounds more like an unprovoked attack. We'll have to wait for more details. Perhaps the victim did something to offend the attackers and they were getting back at him? Or maybe they did it just for thrills, as that seems to be an alarming trend these days.

What a tragedy! Teenage years are tough enough without having to worry about being jumped in the stairwell for accidentally bumping into someone.

Manchester High has security cameras in the stairwells? This is a sign that there have been other problems before. Otherwise the cameras would be watching the doors, not the stairwells.

"It's a completely unfortunate situation, but it is what we consider to be a very isolated incident," said Margaret Hackett, chairwoman of the school board. "I think we're dealing with adolescents who, from time to time, err and get into altercations at school."

Uh, only in the world of public school administration is attempted murder/1st deg. assault considered an "unfortunate situation" that happened because someone "err[ed]".

So someone breaks into your home and beats you to the edge of death, and they made an unfortunate error?

Can anyone else see just how screwed we are?

Good point - I had the same thought when I read that remark. This is not normal behavior. And I've seen the size of 17 years olds this day. They are not some little punk kids anymore. This needs to be addressed as a serious issue by the school.

No, this can't go on. I hope that the school had adopted a "zero" tolerance for this kind of thing. To excuse it away as something as flippantly as to say that kids will be kids (paraphrase) is just flat out wrong and dangerous. These two should be held as they are and summarily told in a language that they do understand that they are no longer welcome in the school system, period While the officials are it, go and round up the parents and guardian them in too.

You're all lying if you can honestly say that fighting in your teenage years has been any different. The only difference now is the uber sensitivity that our society now adheres to. Sucks he went to the hospital, but that's life as a teenager. Get over it.
