Why did this turn into a city bashing? You live and shop where you want to and let others do the same. Free world!

The issue is the freeked out admin at the school going into lockdown. If you've never been inside a school when they do this, you should be. No cafeteria, moving about and probably limited bathroom usage. Teaching and learning? Forgetaboutit!!

Ever heard of Columbine? Rich white kids are no better than "gang-bangers."

Somebody tipped the gang-banger and they either left or got rid of the weapon before police arrived. Not hard to figure out.

I would feel safer in a school that took it seriously than one that didn't care. Besides, once someone calls 911 the school is not in control anymore.

The news is wrong. It isn't a construction trailer. It is a class room that they call a trailer because it is temporary while they build the new rooms.

Something that looked like a gun was carried into a construction trailer. What will happen? The school board banning the contractors from using any tool that may raise suspicion to an on looker? Construction works use a gun to blow fastners into concrete. Some looks very much like a handgun and use .22 caliber blanks to fire a nail into concrete. Poor kids, no education being received.

Maybe it was someone trying to get out of a test or an assignment?
That's what I thought as well, but my mother (a teacher at Goodwin) said it was a reliable kid who gave the report, some kind of nursing student or something.

They were supposed to be taking the CAPT today, so it's certainly possible that this is what happened.

P.S. There are two violent crimes and one thwarted violent crime on the New Britain page today. I can think of a few others just off the top in my head this year, and I'm sure I did some extensive research, you would find that nearly every violent crime committed in a suburb surrounding New Britain was committed by a New Britain resident.
Let's see. New Britain does have more poverty than the rich, snobby towns surrounding it. They also have many more residents than any other town around it (with the exception of W. Hartford). So, I'm sure if I do some research, I'll find Suzy's accusation to be true. OK, so here's your research on the most recent crimes in Greater New Britain:

Robbery suspect in Farmington case from: Newark, NJ

Robbery suspect in Southington/Farmington from: New Milford, CT

Online predator in Farmington from: Schenevus, NY

Pedophile in Farmington from: Colebrook, CT

Woman in possession of heroin with intent to sell in Farmington from: Torrington, CT

Forgery suspect in crime ring in Farmington from: Newark, NJ

Shoplifting ring at WestFarms from: Queens, NY

Drunk man who flipped Jeep and reported stolen from: Farmington, CT

Man who stole copper in Newington from: Berlin, CT

Woman arrested in Newington on slew of burglary, larceny, and forgery charges from: South Windsor, CT

Former police officer in Southington accused of threatening from: Plainville, CT

Bartenders in Southington accused of selling cocaine from: Southington and Meriden, CT

Child molester Reardon in West Hartford from: West Hartford, CT

Fraud suspect in W. Hartford from: W. Hartford

Man accused of threatening at UConn from: West Hartford

Kidnapper Gault from: West Hartford

Oh, wait...here's one:

Man accused of robbing a Burger King in Kensington from: New Britain!

As for the crime rate within New Britain, the violent crime rate of 3 per 1000 people is closer to West Hartford's 1.6 per 1000 than Hartford's 15 per 1000.

Wow, I really just proved your point well. Do us a favor, and before making nasty comments about a city you know NOTHING about, do your own research! And keep your negativity out of our city!

95% of the lockdowns are illegal. They are illegal in every state. The police, nor staff have the right to lockdown any building unless there is an immediate necessity.
This doesn't cover domestic disputes in the neighborhood or a drug dealer walking down the street. These are not a necessity for a lockdown.
The lockdown would be permitted under the same circumstances that would be expected of the general public when an incident occurrs in their area.
Example: If it wouldn't cause you or I to take cover or lock our doors, then it wouldn't be an immediate necessity.
Heya Bar Card, do you have more information as to the illegality of school lockdowns? I'm not an attorney but I'd like to cause a stir in my town. I don't approve of lockdown drills. Last week my wife and 1yr old son had to pick up my daughter from the nurses office (She has an illness that will be with her for life)When mu wife walked through the door they locked the building down completely and told her to go outside in the freezing cold, with my son in hand while my daughter sat in the nurses office for another hour. Lockdown are a Secuity Directors tool to instill fear into the students & staff while proviing job security.

How many of those crimes committed in the suburbs have been committed by someone who came from New Britain? Whenever you hear of a robbery, burglary, or any kind of police pursuit occurring in the Farmington Valley and/or Southington and Plainville, they almost always hail from New Britain (unless you're talking about crimes committed around the mall. Then they either come from New Britain or Hartford). So, the trash from New Britain just spills over and commits their crimes in the suburbs. How does this prove that New Britain is not turning into a pit?
To generalize and call everyone from NB trash shows what a paranoid loser you are. So easy to make those accusations when you can hide in annonymity, isn't it?
