i was on lisinopril for a month and coughing developed. dr. had warned me about possible side effect. on losartan now and night coughs persist, greatly disturbing sleep.

think i'll just get off the meds for a while and see if the cough goes away. think i'd rather live with the bp risk than this hell.

I started taking Lisinopril. It said it takes a couple of weeks to take effect thats about how long it took me to develope the cough. I had bronchitis so I assumed that was the cause but I never have sinus problems and I began to always be clearing my throat because of of post nasal drip. I cough and gag and throw up foamy phlegm. I quit smoking 6 yrs ago cause I was tired of coughing so I don't need this .I am going to quit taking it I didn't see a great improvement in my BP anyway.

Violent, wracking cough with Lisinpril - gut wrenching. NP has taken me off of it, but several days later, I still have the cough. Lungs were clear, no other symptoms. Crappy product

I had a persistant cough with the first blood pressure medication that I was prescribed after having a heart attack followed by bypass surgery. I Can't remember it's name but I checked it online and found a cough was a common side effect.
I got my GP to change it, he switched me to Karvezide which I take with metropol it took a few days for the cough to disappear but it hasn't recurred since, That was about 5 years ago blood pressure is now around 130 over 70 normally.

OMG if i dont stop coughing and clearing my throat soon i dont know what im going to do. Dr took me off lisinopril a week ago and now im taking Avapro, i am almost at my wits end. When will this coughing/clearing stop? I really cannot take it anymore. Its embarrassing, and extremely annoying. I cant go anywhere that is somewhat quiet without making a spectacle of myself. Im in tears and honestly dont know how much longer i can deal with this...what am i going to do?

yeah, my doctor had me on anti-cough pills, anti acids and of course nothing helped. Finally in a rather stern voice I said to him,''I know this isn't from a cold, reflux, I've had both this is different'' he cleared his throat and checked my med list, aha your taking Zestril thats the cause. I suffered months from this cough that shook my whole body, had to wear incontinency pads, and all because he didn't think to check my meds right off.So when I start a new med if I start displaying symptoms I look at the side effects of the drug. You have to be proactive with your health, if you make your dr. mad fire him, yeah he works for you, if someone works for me they don't mind suggestions about MY body.

I have been on Ramipril 10mg for about 6 years and have repeatedly seen my GP for coughing problems for which I have been given antibiotics, various tests and cough mixtures - all ineffective. A few weeks ago the cough intensified to "desperate" level - no more than an hour sleep at night and having to cancel social activities. The GP I saw mentioned possible link to Rampril and a cardiologist has approved my stopping Rampril - he will prescribe something else if my BP rises after monitoring for a month. Rampril was not my primary BP med - BP was being controlled by Atenolol beta blocker after my bypass 9 years ago. Rampril was added by a specialist as a "nice to have addition" as it allegedly offers some vascular protective properties. I have since read that the cough side effect hits about 1 in 8 and I am so encouraged to read all the experiences of folk who have quit ACE inhibitors and solved coughing problems. I just hope mine subsides in a week not 3 months or I may have no life and no wife!

www.Diovan.com -- I was just on their site and they have this drug for $4 for 30 days now. I didn't read the fine print because I've tentatively ruled it out due to the potential vision problems (I'm already legally blind w/o correction!).

I started taking Norvasc and Lisinopril in June and have had a cough since then. I just switched doctors and she told me it was definately the meds. She wants to get the blood pressure under control and then she said she will switch up meds so I stop coughing. She also said not everybody gets it but it looks like alot of you do. I also have a ringing in my left ear and seem to have problems reading to myself out loud or listening to the computer/tv but when people speak, its fine. Talk to your doctor and switch meds.

I have been taking this same BP MED LISINOPRIL @10mg and I agree with you that this need to be off the market . It robs me of my sleep and I can't preach For 5 minutes without a coughing attack , it keeps my wife up worried about me choking on some type of clear fleng nightly . If I could rest better I believe that my blood pressure would stay down

Yes, I am going through it now. I developed a cough, tried vaporizer, nasal sprays, even had a allergy test and the cough stayed. Got off the Lisprinil and after 2 weeks that dry tickle cough went away. It changed the consistency of the lining of my throat, I had to sleep sitting up or with a cough drop in my mouth. Now off the bp medication I have a lot more moisture in my throat and mouth. I too am looking for a Bp medication that does Not cause a cough.

have been taking blood pressure meds since 1993. have had a cough triggered by colder air temperature and allergies since 1993. i just pop a hall's honey-lemon mentho-lyptus cough drop and takes care of the cough within minutes.

Oh my I've been on Lisinopril $11 with insurance for over a year on 10mg n have that awful cough everyday usually at odd times. It does sound like your choking and quite get that tickle out of your throat. I told my GM enough I carry water with me everywhere incase I have episode it's ridiculous. I'm a non smoker so to me this is ridiculous so past 2 weeks I've been on Losartan 75mg same problem it's a sister cousin to Lisinopril n my insurance doesn't cover it's $90 a month.
So happy to find this site I'm going off this to find something else too. So Drs are treating the cough like a cold or bronchitis first if you don't speak up about your bp meds.
Any beta blockers that don't make u cough let me know:)

I'm 51 and just started taking Lisinopril and my blood pressure is worse and I have terrible coughing episodes which cause me to puke and have bladder control issues. They come on at the vary worst of times in public and are so embarrasing. People think you are spreading TB or somthing the cough is so violent. I even had an episode like this in the doctor's office and all he said was "get a drink of water, I think you have COPD.
What? I think I'm going to stop taking it because I can't get any rest and it is not COPD. They need to ban this drug and educate doctors that this is NOT a cure for HPB.
