Good work in this situation by The Courant.

However, it is a shame that The Courant does not go after other liberals in Connecticut with the same zest.

I suspect that John DeStefano also has some skeletons in the closet.

Seems like the Courant is grinding the ol Perez ax again. Yawn. I don't think that anyone, in this day and agg, is surprised that the Perez administration has a media policy. DUH!

The only "fact" in this article that caused me concern is the statement that outside media consultants were hired to deal with recent negative publicity. I don't know how much money was spent there, but it was too much. This is a city in trouble and Hartford should not be wasting any more money on expensive outside consultants. This seems to be a bad habit with this administration.

We can't blame Perez and his minions for trying to put a positive spin on the disaster that is Hartford, they all do it. Big business does it. All we little people can do is to continue to point out how empty the spin is in these message boards. Thanks Sam Zell.

It's not unusual to practice SPIN CONTROL as you minimize public urination, a 30% HS Grad rate and rising murders in the City.

Bu, wait.

He isn't minimizing the bad.

The bad is getting worse.

He's better at SPINNING than FIXING.

Keep the heat on him, Hartford Courant.

I don't even remember the free house renovation Eddie Perez got. But I do know he is doing a heck of a job with the city schools. I understand Detriot is trying to steal him from us to run their public schools. I just hope the State and rell could pay whatever it takes to make Eddie stay and finish the job. A man of Perezs character comes but once in a lifetime.

What Hartford needs is a massive overhaul in management of the City of Hartford coupled with a large tax cut to stimulate job growth. My fix for the City would include a can do attitude, private sector job growth targets, and removal of obstructionists bureaucrats. We must also remove the culture of corruption being engendered by Mayor Eddy Perez.

The State should treat Hartford like the World Bank treats developing nations. Meet certain financial targets and reforms, and we'll give you your grant money.

A massive tax cut and a promise by The Mayor to control tax increases is the only hope for this ailing city. Hartford is full of talented people and despite it's large drop out rate, still has massive potential to thrive. Hartford needs to give it's people and entrepreneurs a break. People do want to work but without the presence of jobs locally, it's ever more difficult for people who live within the city to find a decent paying job or build any meaningful future within the city. When people have a stake in their city, they tend to treat it much better. Right now, a large portion of Hartfords residents are not stake holders but renters. And ownership culture should be encouraged and an empower the people culture should be the spin opportunity.

First, Perez has to be willing to give his strangle hold on people and lay the ground work for the city to thrive by getting off peoples backs. And finally, it's government has to start performing for the people and not it's own self serving agenda. Getting anything done in the City is very difficult and that has to change. Loosen your grip Eddy, and your City will thrive.

"What the city of Hartford needs are more "spin opportunities."

I looked at the slide presentation and didn't see anything different than what every PR / Marketing dept would be trying to do. The only spin opportunity was what the Courant saw in "Spreading the Gospel of Perez" - A catchy headline.

In ShoreBlinder's world, there is only dark and light, blackness and bright, evil and goodness: Conservatives versus Liberals.

What a delightfully ignorant little system that he's set up. Because complexity just plain old makes him have to think for himself and it makes his head hurt and it makes him cranky.

I don't trust the majority of politicians - look at former NY governor Spitzer or lying Dodd and right on down the line. But that a city could elect a mayor like Perez and where he came from tells me all I want to know about the demographics of Hartford and not believe all those who hype the "progress" being made now and for a brighter future in that city.

Please, cite for me the mayor's accomplishments. How is Hartford better than Boston, Providence, New Haven, or New York City (adjusted for size). Why would I want to live in Hartford instead of Stamford? Why should I move from Atlanta or Los Angeles to come to Hartford? I think Hartford could probably hold its own in statistics such as the time its best gang members need to snuff a life out with a quick clean knifing unobstructed with staggering around by the victim holding on before dying. There is also the competition to see which city has the most illegitimate children.(Can't you see illegal alien baby mama's comparing which city offers the best free social services?) Then there is the "we pay for more illegals' health care than you. And don't forget the "we permit more racial slurs out of the mouths of our minorities in the name of diversity than you/" I think Hartford has a real chance to win on these criteria. Maybe not so much on job growth, number of affluent citizens moving into the city, or reduced crime statistics. But the "snatch and grab" for radios out of cars or the "trash the newly restored public buildings" - Hartford has a chance for the top spot there.

I try to give the Courant the benefit of the doubt, but stories such as this make it difficult. I wonder if the Courant had a communications strategy for its recent budget and staffing cuts? If they didn't maybe they should take the lead from Perez and every other business in the country! A bad choice of a title on a power point presentation is the only story here.

Zounds - Take a look at who is paying taxes and who is consuming social services and your bleeding liberal heart may wisen up. It's time to grow up and join people in the real world - not the textbook you read in college where the rich are evil and the poor and needy are all nice and sweet and deserving and held down by the rich.

"That's a fact," he said.

Thats fine and dandy. Who in their right mind would drive through Hartford with their doors unlocked?
