Palin's Daughter Is Lucky

I find so-called "values voters" to be completely inscrutable. First, their "values" seem to revolve entirely around their opposition to: abortion rights, promiscuity, gay marriage, sex-education and ... Full Story

Robyn,

What would you have the minimum wage be for unskilled workers? What's a "living" wage? Does that include cable TV, a new car, regular trips to restaurants, a cell phone, computers, vacations, regular shopping trips to the mall?

What is the wage?$15/hour?$20/hour?

What then would you pay engineers for example if a toilet scrubber was making $20/hour? How about a teacher?

Conservatives have somehow put a gun on a young woman's head and forced her to have an abortion? Forced her to give the baby up for adoption?

No what angers Robyn is this country is not a socialist one. We are a capitalistic country that rewards the entrepreneur and those who work hard. But the USA does have plenty of socialist policies to make sure nobody dies from hunger. In fact we know have obese poor children.

Robyn, did you know that Pelosi has a large investment in a hotel that is non-union? The Republicans are anti-union? Is this the same as unions are pro-Democrat who are for the most part corrupt? They use union dues for political purposes. I guess this is a special interest that is OK?

Let's take a look at the teachers' unions. Who is blocking urban school vouchers and competition? Who protects bad teachers? Boeing is now a target of a strike by workers who have base pay of $40 to $50k plus they work OT at time-and-1/2. They get great benefits too. But they want more.

Conservatives are not ruinous to others in her shoes. They are ruinous to themselves. This is the guns kill people logic.

It's not the disagreement. It's the principle of the liberal mind. Or is it now "progressive"? It's socialist because it comes down to taking from one and giving to the other. But the liberal mind doesn't think that they themselves will pay for all the "great society" programs, just you and me.

That's why Cuba is a throwback to another time. Even though the Europeans have ignored the sanctions and Cuba has plenty of dollars flowing in they instituted a no-incentive for their people to work due to Socialism. It's the same with Venezuela. That country is in ruins because of Chavez's "bolivian" revolution. He is a proud socialist.

Maggie, ask yourself this question: when was the last time you heard a liberal paying more money to any government than they were obligated to pay? Even JFK turned down the optional MA income tax surcharge.

It's the same with every issue that liberals ask us to pony up. Al Gore is very concerned about our carbon foot print but his house is HUGE and burns up BIG TIME energy. This doesn't count on the chartered jets he rides around in campaigning for his carbon trading company. He burns up a lot of energy and we have to cut back.

The liberal mind is not evil. It's just not grounded in the reality that is our natural world.

Get it?

It is already the "L" word. How many times has Obama owned up to his liberal credentials? How many times have you heard the Democrats describe themselves as liberal?

A living wage is defined as the cost of renting a two bedroom apartment (since most minimum wage workers have children), the local cost of the minimum food basket on which food stamp allotments are based, and the cost of transportation to work. A small annual amount is added for clothing, since most minimum wage jobs require some kind of special clothing and maintenance.

The rest of your hysterical rant is not worth answering. You are simply clueless. I hope you get a chance to learn something about life in the real world someday.

Actually, much of the latter part of his "rant" is accurate. As a teacher, I know our union blocks vouchers that 96%(yes, that is accurate by non-partisan figures) of African-American voters support. We need to help people who can't help themselves. But the free market should be allowed to operate. The media wants someone to blame for the mortgage mess. Well, blame the liberals in Congress who pushed through legislation in the 90's that essentially claimed that homeownership was a right for all Americans, and encouraged Fannie and Freddie to be creative in providing mortgages that everyone could afford. Well, look where that got us.

BTW, can I write a piece of trash like this and get it published in papers across the country? I bet my cat could scratch out something better than this drivel.

"The anti-unionism of the Republican Party, combined with its unwillingness to use government to look out for working people, has markedly undermined the prospects of low-skilled workers."

And a few months later I'm sure we'll be treated to an article by Robyn Blumner about how she's against monopolies. Bhwahaha!

Any decent economist will tell you that unions actually restrict employment--especially for low wage workers--in order to boost the wages of its members artificially.

OK.

We think extramarital sex is wrong.

But, we don't think pregnancy is wrong.

I don't know why that's so hard to grasp.

Our usual solution to a unmarried teen pregnancy would be: adoption to a stable couple, or, marriage.

Statistics bear out that financially, the child will be well cared for in either event.

Hope that helps.

Agreed. I am a social conservative but do not agree with government subsidies for anything. If one can build a better mousetrap, find private investors for your invention. Farmers should also be required to sink or swim on their own without gov. assistance.

Hypocrites. I thought I was the only one who watched the RNC and thought, "are these the same people who cheered Dan Quayle regarding Murphy Brown's unwed pregnancy?"

Are swing and ultra right wing and moderate republicans so afraid of electing a black man that they will disregard their "christian values" for a woman who had her first child 8 months after the shotgun wedding? A son who is off to Iraq instead of college? Then a daughter that is pregnant and dropped out of school?
Wake up folks. John McCain is great at picking beauty queens in his private life. So he serves up the eye candy and hide behind her skirt all the way to the White House.

Yep....the elite media is imploding.

All it took was an attractive mother of five who loves her family, the outdoors, guns, God, and her country to drive the 'elite' women into a tizzy. If she were a Democrat, she would be loved. But alas, she's a Republican, so the queen bees of the left (and the media) are on the war path to destroy her.
