Oh Lt Biffle, what would this city do without a hero firefighter like you? You are such a brave man! I hope the HFD can still function without you there! xoxo

why can't the city of Hartford just destroy these buildings getting rid of them? Post a notice of "This property is condemned", set a date and destroy the building. Saves taxpayers money and firefighters lives. I know it won't solve the drug problem but only the firemen are getting hurt.

Our men and women should not be putting their life in danger for a vacant house in the ghetto.

"Ghetto... ebonics"?
That's a little redundant, don't you think...?

Except for the fact that those fires can easily spread to the occupied houses that flank them.

My street has had two house fires, the last maybe five years ago -- one house was occupied and one vacant. There is now new construction on one lot and a community garden on the other. I agree with the other post. If taxes aren't paid give warning, tear the vacant house down, and create a garden or playground in its place. Even an empty lot is better than a crack house cum crash pad for vagrants.

I certainly hope this wasn't a Training issue that caused this injury.

It's good to know that the City of Hartford is STILL paying Deputy Chief Dan Nolan to sit home while he is investigated.

How long has it been Eddie Perez?

Hope that wasn't the injured firefighter in the picture ... isn't that called a violation of HIPPA laws?

Dude...It's not like the courant said the firefighter was injured while he was doing his job, and by the way, he's the "one in five" taking valtrex for a genital herpes outbreak.
Get off your soapbox. Thats the problem with people like you, looking for a violation so they can make a qick buck.
The courant was finally doing what they are supposed to do, report stories.

"Neighbor Charles Oxley said he was working on his computer in the home next door when he heard a popping sound. He said he initially thought it was snow and ice falling off the house, then looked over and saw a window crack. He then saw fire and called 911."

Mr. Charles Oxley is the owner of this vacant crack house, I'm sure he owes back property taxes. Talk about things that make you go hhhmmmmmmmm...I wonder!!!

"Firefighter Injured While Battling Hartford House Fire"
The story told everything about the fire except what the injury was. You would think that because the headline mentions an injury that they would say what happened. Was it a fallen object, smoke inhalation, bad back, or did he trip and fall? The headline implies that the injury is the main part of the story, not the fire itself.

He broke his ankle. Apparently due to the icy conditions at the scene.
