.my 03 tl heater stopped working ---wiring harness issues (covd by extended warranty); bulb went out in headlight, replaced and installed @$279, not covered, now 2 months later my transmission p0740.... could these be related issues? My warranty expired at 99940 miles and I'm at 103000.

I have a 2000 Acura 3.2 TL. My transmission failed when the car was 9 years old in March of 09. My dad worked out a deal with Acura and they paid for half of the repair. I think I paid $2.5K. Since then the transmission has failed again- Acura extended the warranty and I got the transmission replaced again but for free. The extended warranty is three years or 36K miles. It has since been a year since the transmission was replaced and once again my Acura is back at the dealership because the transmission slipped on my way to work.

Normally the service tech's cannot "recreate" the problem and of course there aren't any failure codes stored. So they can't approve the replacement. Hopefully they will be replacing the transmission for the third time and once the transmission is fixed I will be selling my TL :( I love Acura and was considering buying a TSX but from reading these threads probably not.

My 1999 Acura TL has been almost entirely trouble free. I drive it during the harsh Vermont winters only, drag it through salty, pot-holed dirt roads, then park it all summer and now have 151,000 miles on it. My EGR valve clogged up and the dash lights faded but aside from that I have not had any of the problems described. The local Acura dealer has always been great. I, too, have been a repeat Acura buyer since 1987 and would like to continue. The horror stories from so many formally loyal owners is a concern. Perhaps one cure would be to buy an Acura only as long as it comes with a standard.... I know that is not a cure for so many folks, but for me that may be the best solution to avoid any future transmission fiascos.

My Acura failed on me yesterday and had me on the side of the road. I got it towed to Honda to be told that I needed a new transmission at the cost of $4,000!! I got this car used about 48 days ago, so I haven't even had it long enough, which is why I' am definitely contacting the dealer because I deserve some kind of justice. I've found out that the 02 transmission's are on recall, but its now 2011 and I have 109k miles. I'm praying and hoping that Acura will help me because this is just not right. I had high hopes for this Acura and just knew I was getting something that is reliable since Acura's are Hondas.

Still have the car that just sits except for an occasional drive (1 mile) every week or so. Won't go further in case it breaks down, want to be able to walk home.
I've been search for alternative repair solutions at "reasonable" cost but nothing yet that I believe with be a good long term fix.
Other than the transmission problem, the car has been great.

I will start looking for a new replacement vehicle and can most likely count Acura out of the picture after almost 25 years as a customer.

We're on the second transmission in a 1999 Acura TL. The Acura dealer charged us $2500.00 to replace
the first transmission. There is a design flaw with the transmission, which Acura is not going to admit.

Does anyone have transmission problems with their 05 TL. I was just told that I need a new transmission after the car lost power while driving at 70mph on the highway. I have 71K miles on the car and Acura wants me to pay 6k for the new transmission (WHAT!). Any resolution advise?

Not likely. I'm not a mechanic, but the first two problems are electrical, and may be related to each other, whereas the transmission problem is a known mechanical issue that rears its ugly head at 100K to 115K miles.

My 1997 CL was a great car, too. The transmission problems started in later models, around 2002. If you read the chain, you will find that almost all of the complaints are in TL models, around 2001 to early 2004 models.

My 02 TL was a perfect vehicle until 41k when Acura sent me a recall notice for A/T replacement. No complaints in that respect as everything was done under warranty.
I have my A/T fluid drain & filled "every" time I change my engine oil which is every 7500 miles & just 2 wks ago at 148,500 miles I felt a slight "thud" between 1st & 2nd gear.
It is obvious now I'm about to become another number in Acura's A/T failure statistic.
The car still runs & it helps if I let off gas a little inbtwn gear change, but I'm not going to waste any time and/or money even trying to fix this tranny. I plan on trading it in for a Toyota before this Acura leaves me stranded. I'd advise you guys to do the same.
Spending 5 grand on a five thousand dollar car aren't going to make it worth 10 grand..

At 145,000, 3rd transmission failed, and Acura, which replaced transmissions free of charge before, won't do it again, misrepresented the cost of replacement, and has obviously adopted the American mfgr's business plan of soaking them at the sale, and never standing behind a product.
Hyundai, BMW, Cadillac anyone ?

Just out of curiosity, is your 2003 TL Type S's VIN in the range of the recalled 2003 vehicles?
