If we get any fewer troopers on the road, we'll be in the minus category.
I see stranded motorists all the time and the I have never seen the occasional trooper that might be around stop. They go speeding by like they never saw the person.

I think this is a bad directive. These guys are short-handed and need the cars in emergency's.

i think the whole contract should be renegotiated. personal use of the car should be taken away. drive to work like everyone else and pick up your state vehicle there. and the free gas should go too. 400 troopers on call on any shift should be enough. if there is a catastrophic emergency, then they get extra pay.

maybe these troopers don't need to do 80- 90 mph at 6:30am to get to troop g in Bridgeport to close out the shift..suck up the gas

Starting pay for state cops is about $10,000.00/yr less than municipal cops in this state because they get a car. Take the cars away and you have huge salary increases and giant OT budget to hire back cops for full 8 hour shifts because they wouldn't be able to respond off duty. A lot of cops would be very happy if they took the cars away.

I wonder if the Bridgeport Police will follow with this? With all the take home cars and Lord knows there is enough of them. Most of the take home cars are not parked in Bridgeport. The size of the vehicle not to mention the lack of miles per gallon. The other thing is that are they allowed to go to out of state to the bordering states as the State Police can?
I would like to see a study on this to see if pulling the reins on the take home cars can save a few bucks here and there. This way there may be some money for raises.
