FRANKFORT, KY — Hitachi Automotive Products plans to expand its Harrodsburg, KY, manufacturing plant and add more than 100 new jobs "in the near future."

The plant that opened in 1986 already employs more than 600 people.

Gov. Steve Beshear said Tuesday that the expansion would add production lines for high-pressure fuel pumps.

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority has given preliminary approval of nearly $2.9 million in tax incentives for Hitachi to expand the plant.

Good news for a change. In a community that has lost several hundred jobs in the past few months, this is indeed welcome news.

I guess we can credit Obama with this. If we had lost 100 jobs we would be blaming Lonnie and the steakhouse at the south end of town.

That may or may not be. I have no idea about Hitachi or the people who run it as I have had no dealings with either.

I am sure that at least 100 people will, as you put it, "give a $hit" as there is no doubt in my mind that Hitachi will be able to fill these 100 jobs (and another 100 if they offered them).

Even a pay check from a company made up of "pieces of crap" is better than no paycheck at all.

How many people on topix can run a business?

Employers use temp services because it is easier to add and subtract labor without the costs associated with hiring and firing.

Now, I wish that everyone could get a full time job with benefits. I understand, however, that large employers find that temp services suit their needs to be able to add or decrease their workforce depending on economic situations that can change at the drop of a hat.

I'd be reluctant to hire 50 or 100 people individually when I have the option to bring them on through a temp service and can terminate them with one phone call when things all go to crap.

I think the problem is right at 1 year ago they let 100 people go and now look at them.

And ' I wonder' we know how a temp service works.

So..... it would be better if they were not hiring 100 people? Hopefully some of the people out there in Mercer County who don't have a job and are looking for one can get in on this.

Red Wing announced today that they were closing. K Mart announced this past week that they were closing. Hundreds of jobs lost in Boyle County.(Since these businesses were in Danville can they still be all Lonnie's fault??)

I would think that anybody expanding and hiring anywhere in our area (including a steakhouse in Harrodsburg) would be welcome news.

Obama or Lonnie had nothing to do with this. Neither of them are smart enough.

I agree.

Neither Lonnie nor Obama had any thing to do with this nor a lot of the other stuff they get credited with/blamed for that happens in Harrodsburg.

Who uses "dolt"? Oh, I don't know - someone educated well enough to spell "you're."

So.... it would be better if they were NOT hiring 100 people(even if they are just hiring back some of the ones they let go earlier?)

I can think of 100 people who are (or will be) glad that this situation exists and this announcement was made.

Granted that will be great for those 100 people. Seems to me they are still 100 in the hole though. This town is dried up and some of you can't see the forest for the trees.

Mom is well, although I can't imagine why you're asking, unless it's some feeble, juvenile attempt to insult my mother, whom you don't even know. As far as getting out and getting some, I'm happily married. As for smart, I have my moments - which is more than I can say for you, half-wit.
