I dont know why that was removed earlier . I'm always like many , concerned about the welfare of our Kids when they are away at School . It use to not be this craziness going on. I never felt afraid at elementary or high school . No one did . I just wondered if they had security guards around school and it got removed .

I can tell you why. The Mercer County school system is working around the clock to contain this. They are on full damage control. Notice that on WKYT's website, the cheer coach story is the ONLY one in which comments are disabled.

They should be reminded (since they are certainly reading this), this is OUR tax dollars at work! This is a matter of public interest. You don't wait till the fox is in the henhouse before you mend the door! The citizens of Mercer County have a right to know what's going on in their school!

My goodness . Sounds like a mess at the school , schools . I am a concerned parent , citizen . We should have a right to know what is going on at this school . I've heard so many things said about that school for a while now and not too favorable . If there are things going on they can't just sweep it under the rug.

All concerned parents at all Mercer schools need to start attending pto school council and board meetings. These are our schools and our children. Share your concerns with the principles. Everybody on here complainin but how many really share the concerns with the administators at the schools and board.

Unfortunately, they have a long history of sweeping things under the rug unless it involves someone they want to protect. The teacher turnover rate the last 8 years running is tremendous for this district compared to other districts statewide. That statistic alone should sound alarms about how the district is functioning in the bigger picture, but most have accepted it as normal business in this district. Perhaps it will take some student becoming injured or worse for any instrumental changes to be implemented. The district is perceived in a negative light all throughout central Kentucky and Frankfort is relatively close geographically, but they have no interest in becoming involved unless forced to do so.

Actually, I agree that more parents must become involved to facilitate any real change in the way the district operates, but I do not feel sharing concerns with the principal or building administrator will solve anything. Unfortunately, if you consider the fact that most of them gained their positions during the time all the negative cycle has occurred, they are really part of the problem more than part of the solution due to their alliances and political ties within the central offices.

Digger, I would not let it get to me too much! Most people want things to remain the same without any questioning of authority or discussion of best practices overall. People fear change and are inherently indifferent to things they feel they have no input or control over as well.
I know that I shouldn't, but I'm 61 years old, and I worry about the generation that is going to inherit this nation.

I realize that folks said the same thing about my generation. If you could have seen me back in 1969 when I was 16 years old, you probably would have said "Now there's a kid that won't amount to nothing." Going out in the woods, smoking pot, and listening to the Beatles and Rolling Stones. Then on August 14th me and my best friends drove up to Woodstock and we spent the whole weekend up there. I know I sound like an old fart when I say it, but to be 16 years old in 1969 was unlike anything any other generation could experience and I'm truly thankful that I could be a part of such a historic event in American pop culture.

But as the Bible says "When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things." While I was just as irresponsible as any teenager during the late 60's, I always keep in mind that one day I was going to grow to be a man, and when that day came, I acted like one. Our generation never had such a disdain for science that we see today. We grew up in the shadow of the mushroom cloud. We knew what science could do. It was science that kept us from having to invade Japan. Not some magic man in the clouds.

Anyway, I'm getting off the subject here. I sincerely fear for this next generation if Mercer County is the yardstick by which the future is measured.

Were the schools having all these problems before they built MCHS a new school & other buildings for classes ? I mean Weren't things pretty good with HHS and MHS as separates ? I know I read about MHS wanting better athletes but come on . There is the 3 R 's I was taught . Reading , writing , Arithmatic. I really am not sure . Just see things getting worse .

The more involved parents and the community are with the educational system of the county, the better our system will become. Help with the problem, don't make it bigger. Instead of posting all the negative, make a positive and get involved. Attend the school meetings, attend your kids functions and make a positive change. This community and our kids will not prosper with all the negative and trash talk.
