I have been hearing from a lot of people about the condition of the old Mercer County High School building that will be the home of the Mercer County Middle School. I hear that the inside is very antiquated. Hard to understand that move! Are we going downhill?

I believe you have the wrong building, its the old Harrodsburg Lex St Campus that is antiquated. The supt and board made the best decision by keeping the other buildings open and moving to close the OLD hhs.

This has nothing to do with either a Scottie or a Pioneer!

I don't understand your comment! My name is Scottie! LOL and your correct has nothing to do with what school you went to years ago. It's about saving money and giving kids a better education by having the money to do it.

Apparently I struck a nerve and for that I apologize. Whether you are saving money or not is debatable. From what I can understand, the MCIS move is better than where they were. They now have bigger classrooms. However, the middle school students move to the old high school is not going to be as pleasant since the building is old, outdated and laid out poorly.. I know this because I went to school there!
It is a shame that almost every student in the whole system has to be moved almost every year!

I understand everyone's dilemma. No one wants to pay higher taxes for something that isn't worth it. I too went to Harrodsburg. The building is old and more outdated than most even realize. The plumbing and some electric are terrible. The old high school upstairs is full of mold. I think the school district should sell it for whatever they can get for it. Good reddens. If someone wants to save it for historical purposes, they buy the stupid thing and get over it. The students are moved now where they will stay... As time goes on there will be renovations made I am sure. No building stays new forever. You have to maintain them and make changes according to our state government laws. Yes, they rule over all school districts. So find something else to dog for a while and leave the school and poor students alone. They all get along and love where they are. And remember , this too will pass and no one will care what you said or thought on TOPIX!!

They had to decide which was the more optimal choice of closing school buildings. Yes the NEW KMS (old MCHS) is older than the other MERCER school buildings, however, I would hardly call it poorly laid out or completely outdated. I went to school there, graduated from there, and went there the other night with my child for open house. I would much rather see them there, than back at the middle school,(MCIS, FORMERLY KMS). I was not a fan of that school building ever and had two children go through there. If one school had to be closed, the former Harrodsburg High School was the right choice. Noone is every going to be completely satisfied with decisions made, so if you want to be heard about your issues I would suggest being at one of the board meetings when issues that interest you are discussed.

By krs the School Board must advertise in the paper and have a hearing. Go to the hearing, voice your concerns. Last i heard the school district is doing well. Why raise taxes. Let me repeat myself.... Go to the meeting and voice your concerns.
