I've got a friend whose sister got married at Aspen Hall, and she said good things about the place. The friend got married at Shakertown, pretty place, but dang did they charge them an arm and a leg--and this was for a pretty simple wedding. Shakertown doesn't allow outside caterers (or at least they didn't a couple of years ago) and they charged them and outrageous price for food that was mediocre at best! i think they paid a couple grand for country ham & biscuits, and assorted finger sandwiches, mixed fruit, veggies and dip for about a hundred people! I've been to other weddings where that same money would have paid for a sit down hot dinner! The wedding wound up being indoors, and there wasn't nearly enough seating for the ceremony, and for the reception you had guests milling around in several rooms, and those who were lucky enough to find chairs to sit in while they ate had to balance their plates on their knees because there were no tables!! Last year we attended a wedding reception there (the wedding was offsite) and it was even worse!! The reception was outdoors (in July) and the tent they had us in was roasting hot, and since we were on bare ground, the older folks had some trouble getting around, because the tent was set up out in a field instead of a lawn where the ground would be smoother. The food was pretty much the same as at the other reception, but where this one was outside flies were swarming all over the food. They did have employees standing around trying to fan the flies off the food but they were everywhere. Once we got our food there were tables set up for the guests, and it was a good thing because it would have been very hard to balance a plate AND eat AND shoo the flies away. At least we had a little souvenir to remember the wedding by, later that night we were scratching all the chigger bites we got there!

SHAKERTOWN????????
Why would anyone want to get married at Shakertown? Those people did not believe in sex, having children, or marriage. Men and women lived apart.
Married in a place like that, with that history. Insane.
So how did they get here then ?

They took in orphans.

They took in orphans and a lot of adults converted as well. For the time it would have been a good life for widows with children.

I personally know Lisa and Tina and have helped them with weddings and reunions and nothing could be further from the truth. There is nothing Junky about Hunter's Trace. That is laughable and as for them being "money grubbing' again is laughable. Both ladies have other jobs and only have a select few events on the property because Mr. Kelly likes seeing people enjoy his place. They make a small profit. Most of the charge goes to rentals but mostly to insurance. They are required to carry event insurance and it isn't cheap. They also are present for 3 entire days for a wedding. This isn't volunteer work. I know of no other venue that includes 3 days in their charge as well as open the family home up to the bridal party the day of the wedding. They cannot obtain a liquor license as this is not a restaurant but a family home. They have served alcohol at weddings and when liquor is served, there has to be a licensed bartender. I asked one of them today if they have ever bid a wedding for $13,000 and the answer was no...
