How hard is it for a user to ever not touch anything again. Heard that once you have been addicted to drugs that its hard not to ever not do anything again even if it is prescribed by a DR. Or even drinking. Was told that no matter what you will always crave whatever to fulfill that spot plz let me know

It's hard, but it can be done. For an addict, feeding the addiction is infinitely easier than sobriety.

It's not just craving the drug it's also environment, triggers, friends, things, places, people that they associate with using. It can be done but they have to change every aspect of their life. The thought is always there but changing the things around you makes those easier to overcome.

Just like with smoking. The when you get up cigarette, after you eat, in the car, hand to mouth, being around people that smoke. You have to find things to overcome those triggers or find something to replace that time you would have smoked a cigarette if you are trying to quit. Addiction comes in many forms. It's more mental than anything.

If it were true that addiction is "more mental than anything", heroin addicts would not need methadone and alcoholics would not experience delirium tremens. Even smoking cessation experts advise quitting gradually to avoid adverse effects on the body. By nature, addiction is a physical desire for a substance. While mentality does factor in, reducing the actual physical need for the substance is most important.

Yes I agree it is also physical, but the physical is easier to overcome than the mental aspect of it in my opinion. Someone can detox or ween themselves off within a week or 2, but I think the actual going to rehab or getting counseling to get to the root of the addiction is most important in being successful. An addict will always be an addict, there's not a day that they won't think about using. So they do have to mentally be able to overcome that.

You are right Well. It is the mental addictrion that is the hardest to deal with. Once the physical is over. It is over. But the mental addiction is never over. It is a everyday thing. Everyday Everyday Everyday. It gets easier, but it is on your mind at least several times everyday.
