The Harrodsburg Herald is always interesting. This week it reported that the Park Board is demanding more tax money from the city and the county. They get $100,000 from both the city and county government plus the city sets aside $25,000 which they always give when asked. This means that the cost to the taxpayer is now almost a quarter of million dollars and if they get what they demand they will be spend close to 300,000 tax dollars plus fees each year.

It was also learned that the Park Board wants the tourist commission to kick in money, since they don't do that now. But the tourist commission does send half of the restaurant tax that it collects to the city and the city then uses some of that money to replace funds that used to come from other taxes. All or part of that $100,000 does come from the restaurant tax.

A couple of things come to mind. 1. Restaurants outside the city limits such as Shakertown do not collect the restaurant tax but they do profit from the tourist that the tourist commission help to bring to this country. The county government needs to move to tax county restaurants the same as city restaurants. 2. The tax payer is not some deep pocket bunch. Live within your means.

This is probably the worst one yet. That's why there's only "One True Digger." Remember to always look for the OFFICIAL One True Digger account. Imitations are easily spotted. "Country." Good lord.

KRS currently allows only cities of the 4th & 5th class to enact a restaurant tax. This would prohibit any restaurants outside the city limits to charge & collect the tax.
