boyle county detention center

it is retarded that boyle county detention center charges ALL inmates whether they are sentenced or not $34 a day just to be in jail (i got this info from calling the jail today). they say this covers the cost of them being there and their so called care. What people dont realize is that it only takes a jail $3.17 a day to feed each inmate. so where does the other almost $30 a day go? If you stop and think about it and if you take $34 a day times 30 days that totals $1,020 a month. I am sorry but I am a single mother with a child and my monthly bills even with food and cable tv and internet do not come close to that much a month!! So how is it they can claim that it costs that much to keep an person in jail for a month??? That makes no sense at all. where I used to live the jail charged all sentenced inmates $7 a day for being in jail and work release charged $18 a day. Even here in Kentucky the work release program charges inmates less a day than the county jails!! Something needs to be done. Like others have said the jail does not provide an inmate with even the basic necessities. They do not provide clothing or shampoo or soap or deodorant or anything like that so how is it they can say it costs them $34 a day to house an inmate??? so what they have to have guards to monitor the inmates, these jails are supposed to be able to run themselves with the funding they get from state and federal agencies. Did you know that county jails get $300 a day for every federal inmate they are housing from the federal government? It is true, it is the payment that all jails across the US get from the feds for housing their inmates. the food comes from processed companies and if you ever work in the kitchens take a look at the boxes that meat comes in. I bet many of the boxes will say "for institutional use only" meaning that the company would never consider selling or serving it to anyone in society only inmates. Just because someone is in jail does not mean they are automatically a horrible person. People do make mistakes and whether they are in jail or not they should still be treated like a human being not like a caged animal. And another thing I think it is pretty crappy of one guard over there in danville that tells you they are going to tell an inmate a message when they offer to do so and then in reality they dont even do it. Why the hell offer to do something if you are not going to do it? That is just totally rude!

If it took 24 hr guards, medical care, electric, food, cable, rec, costs for transporting prisoners, people to process paperwork etc etc to watch you and your child, then yes the costs would be at least $34 a day. Then it costs more to have someone be your message boy..

Maybe when the person to whom you tried to deliver a message is released, you can discuss with them their behavior that lead to their incarceration.
That'd be the appropriate person to gripe at.

Good day!

How can they take half the money evertime you put on an inmates books,( for shampoo, deodorant, soap) and still charge them $25.00 a day for being in jail? Sounds to me like the jail is lining their pockets. That money is for the inmates to get the basic stuff they need while they are in jail, because the jail does not furnish this stuff for them.I know this is jail but we all deserve to take a shower.
It's jail! It's not supposed to have all of the comforts of living at home! It's jail!

Quit your whining. 34.00 is probably less than what you're spending on dope everyday. Think of it as a savings plan.

Some people are arrested for crimes they DONT commit. And many are proven innocent. Why should they have to pay when they are innocent? Their money should be refunded. I think so many people are so glad when they get out that they don't worry much about the money.

No, people make bad choices. It is completely theirs to own.

A mistake is paying your water bill a day late. Committing a crime is a choice.

Is there anyway to find out when my inmates visitations are? I have been trying to set up an appointment but it says they are already taken up for the week...his mom has one but we are currently not getting along so I can't go with her...but would like to be there for the other one if I can find out when it is...he says he doesn't know who else could be coming to see him other than his mother and myself!

They're by appointment only anymore. You can request a special visit but they are hard to come by. Plus, inmates are only allowed so many a week, if someone beats you to the punch you're just s.o.l..
