Time Warner Cable Speed Test- Are you getting what you paid for?

I recently upgraded to Road Runner Turbo and I'm very disappointed to see upon testing the speed with sites, that most of the time I go way below the basic speed even though I'm on turbo! This is crazy after paying 50 sum a month!!! Cable internet runs off of what are called Nods in areas. It's obvious we need more Nods here in Harrodsburg as the speed really drops.Anyway, I would like to know what anyone else is running if there with time warner. Road Runner standard is suppose to be 5mb down. Turbo is suppose to be 10MD down and beyond. I also tested a friends speed yesterday and he was supose to have been getting 5mb down but was only getting 1.5!! i have the 6 mb bell south package. my numbers are 4.6 down .5 up. I have run it before and had numbers closer to 6 down, 1.4 up. It's raining now and that does make a different. I am also on a laptop connected by wifi.
Oddly, my office has the same 6 mb package and there i can get way over 6 down and way over 1.5 up.

It depends on several factors, also, read the fine print, they advertise UP TO that much, they list no minimum, if they wanted, they could throttle you to 1Kbps, have fun with that, and it would be perfectly legal.

I recently upgraded to Turbo from the middle of the road speed, at night the system seemed faster but in the day time it seemed to be no faster than previously. I contacted TW and they indicated that my original modem is not "Turbo Compliant" and since it is also used for my digital phone service they are sending out a technician to "swap out the modem" for the "turbo compliant" version which should resovle my slow speed issues. They also agreed to "waive" the charge for the one month of Turbo that I didn't get, and also waived the "installation charge" for the new "turbo compliant" modem.

As A TWC cable Tech I will say the service is a waste of money for anything over the basic package, we have an outdated system with to many customers as att has not been competative until recently. I had the turbo and was getting very slow speeds do to my location, There are a lot of businesses on the same node as I am and they have garenteed amount of bandwidth as they are commercial customers that pay twice the price for their service.

I too am unhappy with their service as of late. I have forwarded this thread to their customer service department to let them know that others are unhappy as well. Will it help? Can it hurt?

It can't hurt that's for sure. Let's hope they fix the speeds n Central KY as it sucks most of the time. Mine goes all the way down to 2mb when it's suppose to be 10. Uncalled for....

WARNING LONG RANT:
They throttle me with less than 1kbp at night and I of course have the turbo. Yes you read that right. less than 1. I call them every month now and tell them Im not paying that charge until you fix it. they have too many people trying to share the bandwidth, period. I can't watch netflix or any streaming video or play games on the weekend nights, and a lot of times i cannot watch it on weekday evenings! I've spent literally hours on the telephone with tw, nothing changes. They even admit that there is a problem, and that it is in fact thiers.(to tw) See the problem? Fix it. TW, you charge plenty enough to do so. Ridiculous.
What's really sad is that I work from home, and that is my bread and butter. I can't pay your exorbant charges if you don't keep things in working order (I also have problems getting dropped from my remote desktop)!
But I digress, last weekend my speeds were

Again, ridiculous!

I changed my package to the fastest (Turbo I think) and actually got a slower speed. Xbox lagged. Netflix paused. I had them change it back and got a download speed of 12-16.

I recommend calling them and telling them you want to downgrade to the second fastest package which I think is Extreme, or whatever.

IT sucks. I work from home and half the time the signal is so slow I cannot get company emails with attachements to even load. I thought about going to Business Class service, but based on the high price, it sounds like little, if any improvement would be sufficient. They suck here in Austin.

Hi just for an update, they highly suggested not downgrading, and then gave me forty dollars off my bill. And since, I haven't been dropped anymore...I have slow periods, but none that I cannot work...

Sometimes the squeeky wheels does get some grease...don't paticularly think it was just me, probably MANY that were getting ticked off.

I disagree. I pay for 10mbps down and 1mbps up, but i get 25-30mbps down and 1mbps up.

I started this thread way back. I'd like to say that TWC has since fixed the connection and I pay for 10 but now get around 20. So a happy customer!

Daas and test, you state you are getting these high speeds but lets not forget to mention that these 20-30 mbps speeds are not sustained speeds, they are only for a short period of time. That is what the Turbo boost is all about, kicking in for the first minute or two at blazing speeds, then falling back to around 9.5 mbps for the remainder of the transfer. Which by the way, is fine by me as this is the way it is supposed to perform. I switched to Roadrunner from AT&T about 6 years ago and will never look back. At any given time this household will have a Wii, Vonage box, 4-5 android devices, 4 desktop systems and 4 laptops connected simultaneously and I have never had any problems with speed or lag of any kind. I am very happy with the service that they provide.

What tool are y'all testing speeds with? I have Turbo and if I use the generic Ookla, I almost never have speeds exceeding 5mbps. But if I use Roadrunner's proprietary Ookla (only works if you're hooked into Roadrunner), I always get at least twice that speed. Here in Hawaii URL is: http://speedtest.oceanic.com/
