Doddridge Oil Spill Raises Questions About Reporting

A spill upstream of the town of West Union during the summer has revealed a gap in the system for notifying drinking water systems of possible contamination.

And the powers that be want everyone in the county to be on public water ---- I'll keep my imperfect well water --- thank-you!

this whole episode is going to start sounding more political by the day. It will eventually boil down to who new what what and when did they know it. A look into the board members of the corp names behind the spill related contractors is also interesting reading. And don't be surprised when the who knew what story goes a lot deeper than just the creek bottom. The shame of it all is that the damage has been done, the evidence of the damage won't show up for a few years in the form of death and birth defects and those that benefit from the "Gas Game" in and around Doddridge will have spent all their profits by then.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what happened and when it happened --- I have heard at least three stories -- all revolving around one person -----

The bottom line --- those pits are supposed to be checked every 3 days by the inspectors ---- the state and their reporting system stinks and if this was intentional the person needs to be held accountable ---

AND this is a PERFECT reason to stay on well water and NOT to establish a PSD

It is cheaper to cut a quick coverable path to the creek than pay for removal isn't it ?

actually, the city water runs through many tests by outside labs on a scheduled routine.

The manganese was corrected for so that it would not affect the potability of the water in the system.

This instance - lucky! Next time - or with a deliberate saboutage involving foreign chemicals, we might not be so lucky.

The important thing is to establish an official notification tree so that everyone knows what they are dealing with as soon as possible.

And - maybe people with well-water should have their supply tested too? I really don't know enough about what was in that spill so I don't know, but look at the Greenwood problem - those chemicals seeped through to the water table making wells unsafe.

Y - I agree that it does smell like a cover-up. Especially when no one has been told yet what was in the spill. Let's hope it was just ignorance and a notification system will be put in place before the next 'accident'.
