I was wondering if the citizens know what kinda of situation the fire department is in. Harrisonville has a combination department. 4 firefighters work Mon. thru Fri. and the volunteers are supposed to take care of calls after busniess hours. But the current situation is that we have no volunteers and the paid staff are the only ones that show up at times. Some times we get one or two volunteers to answer the call. I was wonder if any citizens know this. If this is a concern for you please contact your city alderman and demand action. Or the next time you need the fire department someone may or may not show up.

This has been an ongoing problem in Harrisonville. I am a 'past'volunteer firefighter (of 20 years) here and I've seen this in other towns. The problem is Politics and liabilities to the city.
Times have changed and people are too busy making a living . Local Government regulations and restrictions have made it nearly impossible for local business persons and home owners to survive financially.
Volunteers are needed badly However they (in my opinion)do not want to get tied up in the political crap. They want ti fight fire not be an EMT and not have demands on them.
THEY ARE VOLUNTEERS !!

On Christmas day the Harrisonville fire department was sent to a house fire over by the elementry school. It took 11 minutes for fire personnel to arrive on scene. The citizens of this town should be outraged at this response time. I guess the only way the citizens in this town to get the protection they deserve is for one the alderman or mayor and maybe the city admin. need the fire department in a emergency and they have to wait 11 plus minutes for help to arrive. Call your alderman and tell them you want more help for your fireman.

The Holidays are always a tough time to get help. Now that our city and City Administrator have made it nearly impossible for Volunteers to participate with the local fire service, there will never be Quick responce again.
Our Fire Department is just that Another City Department. We have a few paid firefighters however the town can not afford enough for around the clock fire protection for us.
Good job Harrisonville. We can't afford to pay enough help and Volunteers are not good enough.
Some one needs to be held accountable for leaving the citizens of our town with out adequate protection And an 11 minute responce time.

Thats just terrible. Recently there was a fire in the country out on airport rd and it took over 15 minutes to get there. The house was a total loss. I know thats far in the country but I think the response should have been a litte quicker. This happened on a Saturday so there were not any firefighters at the Harrisonville Dept. I will admite though that the East Lynne Volunteer staff did a very good job and had a good responding time. There are smaller cities around Harrisonville that have Firefighters on duty 24/7!! Oh maybe we can't have a full time staff cause of the fact that Harrisonville keeps building these new elaborate buildings (fire station, Justice Center, Community Center). Just think about it!!!

There are major problems with the fire department in harrisonville, the city has money to fix the problem but why pay when they manage to somehow get by. The city does have nice new elaborate buildings, but not the fire station, it just got a new look on the outside walk through it and take a peek. The EMS side is new yes but once again the city turned its back on the fire department. It is a shame that it runs off good free help and even a majority that are career firefighters at other departments in the KC metro just giving back to the community they live in but the city will not take care of its own. Instead of supporting and saying thank you, they mistreat and run off those that are willing to help for nothing. Not to mention that the last 4 out of 5 hires for a fire department position have been outside the department instead of hiring one of its own volunteers that has paid their dues, know the system and have a tie to the community. I can talk about the problems within for days but why waste anymore of your time.

Why is none of this put in the local Harrisonville mo. newspaper? I think people should be told about this problem, maybe we need a complete clean out of city hall! This is a lawsuit waiting to happen!
