Review: Biery & Paulette - Kathryn A Biery DDS

Before all of you continue to bash this fine establishment maybe you need to go back in and talk to them. More than 1/2 of you sound like idiots. Dr.Biery is the sweetest most caring person I have ever met.. And Dr. Paulette is active military, He is a respectable, caring oral surgeon.

You all need to go to their new office, meet the entirely new staff, and meet the 4 new doctors added to their practice this year.

They will immediately change all of your minds.
Voice your concerns, in person, to Dr.Biery and I guarantee that she will fix any and all problems you have with her/her staff/ or finances.

CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF. DR. Kathy Biery is the best dentist in town !!!!

I went there recently because that was the only dentist my insurance covered that wasn't in Charlottesville... They kept trying to get me to buy services that my insurance didn't cover while I was in the middle of my cleaning and then would not pull a tooth that had broken in half(which was the whole reason why I went there)! Then I received 5-10 calls after about a week saying I owed them money! I told them that everything I had done that day was 100% covered by my insurance and the only response I got was "So when do you think you can come in and take care of this balance?" Every time they called this was the exact phone conversation I had with them... Finally I told them I wasn't giving them a dime and if they kept harassing me I would sue the crap out of them! I have not received a call from them again... But my tooth is still broken and it kills me every day... Trying to find a new dentist with my insurance company now!

I had the unfortunate pleasure of seeking help from this practice. I am a social worker and have referred children to this practice in the past, not knowing what I was doing!!! I have peridontal disease and realize I need quite a bit of work done. I made an appointment to see these dentists only to have the first appointment canceled because the dentist was out of the office. The day of my initial appointment, I filled out the usual paperwork, although it seemend starnge that the majority of the paperwork dealt with money, them being paid, etc.. The office had a circus like atmosphere, children running all over the place with no parental supervision. I noticed atleast 10 different dental hygiene people coming out to get their patients and the patients appeared to only be gone 15 minutes then they were done. Finally I was called back and was taken to get my x-ray, which we had to go through the lobby to get to). After the x-ray, the dentist came to see me. The hygienest did not look in my mouth one time!!! The dentist looked in my mouth a total of about one minute, picked at a couple of my teeth and told me I needed ALL of my teeth pulled. ALL 31 teeth!!! They also said that since I had bone loss that I could not be fitted for dentures until I had bone graphs and 6 implants!!Needless to say, the total for this would be over 10,000 (including my insurance). I was told that my insurance only covered 1500 a year total. They asked me to come back the following week for a "consult". The next week I went back was n ot any better. Again, children running all over the place and a wait of over 90 minutes. Finally, after complaining, I was escorted back to another room for another wait. I happened to look at my chart while I was waiting and noticed that they had highlighted several things that my insurance would pay for but told me it wouldn't!! Can we say DOUBLE DIPPING??? This made me furious. I was then taken to another room with two other families who were also waiting for a consult. All of us had insurance and there was the financial person talking to each person about their bill, how to pay, financing options, etc.. Isn't there HIPPA laws?? Privacy laws?? I did not want to hear other people's financial business and I sure did not want them to hear mine. I told them I was leaving and wanted copies of my records, x-rays, etc. When i looked at the "new" treatment plan proposal in my records, it was $34,000!!!!!! I could not believe what I was seeing!! What kind of place is this??? I really believe that the people that have insurance are being ripped off and charged outrageous prices to make up for the medicaid patients that are obviously the majority of their practice clientel!!!! Reverse discrimination maybe????? I will never refer anyone to this place again and am soo thankful I did not let them touch me!!! STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THESE NUTS!!!!!

That is incorrect-- the child did not die.. and she still goes and sees dr. biery and paulette. please get your facts straight before you start rumors like you are a teenager.

I personally have never had any "run-ins" with this office, BUT my Husband has. Anytime he needed dental work growing up (until he was 17) he was taken to Biery and Paulette . I'm curious - some of the previous Dentists have been removed from this office, correct? That still leaves BIERY & PAULETTE though... I'm fairly certain that it was one of the two that removed my Husband's wisdom teeth and decided "Well, heck while we're in here, lets fill some cavities and do a root canal"... CRAZY. Seeing him after the fact - SCARY. He looked as if he had been beaten with a baseball bat! Terrified me into never wanting my own wisdom teeth removed! I REALLY hope that their practice has improved over the years. Funny word "practice," I guess they were just "practicing" on my Husband.. trial and error maybe? Needless to say to THIS day he has the most problematic teeth of anyone I've ever met! They may have changed their name, gotten a little wiser, but they are the LAST people I would let touch my teeth... EVER! And for those of you who have painted them as "great people, sweet people, active military"... that doesn't mean they are good Dentists!

I have an adult grndson needing wisdom teeth cut out,,he has 8!! one is growing in the roof of his mouth. He went to Blue Ridge Dentist today, and apparently they have paulette and Biery do their surgery, and they wanted 1300 up front. he is still under his father's insurance and it should pay for this, as it is surgery. told my daughter that this payng up front stuff sounded "iffy" to me. Now I know it is.
In this economy , no one has 1300 laying around.
He is in a lot of pain and it all comes down to a group of Drs ripping off the system.
Shame on the Blue Ridge Dr for using these jerks.

Have you ever been sedated? because if you had you would know.

I have since learned that I was mistaken about the option of paying,,I can't find a way to delete, so this is best I can do.
also to add, years ago Paulette did removed our sons wisdoms as a teen, he did fine, but there was no question billing our medical(not dental, as we didn't have dental). Apparently times have just changed.
