Here we go again...Another left turn on green, and a non vehicular controlling human is impacted. Sense a pattern here?

It doesn't clarify if it was a green ball or a green arrow. Which is important.

No, this happens when you wear dark clothing at night in or near roadways.

I'm actually surprised to see the story mention dark clothing as a causation factor. You will never see the Charlottesville police or Albemarle County police mention dark clothing in this type of incident. Never.

If people would only look and learn to obey signs and the LAW then this wouldn't of happen. Sorry to hear bad news like this put you got to take control of your life and watch what you are doing. They need to RESTART teaching what GREEN AND RED lights mean in schools and obey and live if not then fath is in your own hand and you are to blame. Prayers for the family and the driver.

Aren't parents supposed to teach the look both ways and colors at home before they get to school? My two year old knows the difference. That is my responsibility as a parent not forcing schools to teach something that parents should when the kids are little.

I know at Western Albemarle High school when you take a right out of the school, there is a cross walk, the students walk when it tells them to and the drivers light is green, if you turn and dont pay attention you can hit someone, trust me it almost happen to my husband.

Sounds like the traffic lights and rules need to be reviewed. This is happening way too much.

Does it matter if it was an arrow or ball because the girl's crosswalk had a "do not walk" hand up. So the bus was not in the wrong either way, the girl was. Students think they have the right of way all the time. Just because you are at a crosswalk does not mean should just walk on out in the road. You still have to stop and look both ways. And at a light crossing, you have to obey the crossing lights and not just assume, "oh nothing is coming, it's late, I'll just walk"

It might have been a student from another county and rellay don't know much about our light laws. Just look at the way they drive when they get here so if one needs to learn the LAW then let the others get a class also. Some parents don't take time with there children to teach them anything and most likely they are the ones have problems as they get older.. Lets all work together to teach young people and make it safe for all.

The only pattern is a pedestrian who didn't know how to obey the traffic signal. It's not always the vehicle drivers fault like you have eluded to. She was probably texting and not paying attention. With the current rash of people getting hit by vehicles, maybe they will get more diligent about watching for traffic.

You misunderstood me. I didn't allude to it being the driver's fault, just that there seems to be a sudden upswing in the number of vehicle vs. pedestrian/cyclist collisions. It's basic physics as to who will lose out.
