The police have no less right to self defense as any other citizen. According to the report, the officer ordered the man to drop the weapon. He didn't and charged. The officer defended himself and others. I just hope the Hburg police don't suspend this guy.

Gun control almost at it's finest. A little more training, and a little more practice and I think this officer can master it.
Sorry for all involved though. This is never a positive experience for anyone.

It's hard on deputy & the man & his family, sorry ,his crime was being disturbed at 1 st. P.S. before you all jump on me I know law enforcement & 1 st amendment , I do protect my land any way I have to!

The Officer used the force necessary to stop a lethal force attack. I don't care if the guy was insane you run at someone with a knife you should be shot. Double tap one to the chest and one to the head.

If you "knew" law enforcement, you wouldn't refer to the officer as a "deputy". It's a police officer of the Harrisonburg Police Department.

Do we have a name of the perp? Was he Latino? Sorry, but "Droppo el knife-o" might not have been understood by the suspect.

I 'spose all the libs will cry out: "Why didn't he taser the suspect?"

That officer did exactly what he was trained to do. Good job. This guy wanted it if he made the decision to charge the officer with a knife.

I guess the only people they can safely tazer are unarmed teenagers and the elderly that back talk while being ticketed. If you want to see your distraught, or emotionally disturbed family members killed, by all means call your local PD for assistance, they appear to be more than eager to shoot them for you.

The cop should have used a shotgun. The zonked out druggie that attacked him with a knife will be on the welfare rolls for the next 50 years. One day the saps around here might figure out why their taxes are so high-----half the people are living off the other half.

No taser no gas, just shoot first and ask questions later. Like the other poster said, gas and tasers are for the old and infirm. But if you gas a cop its a federal offence. The most dangerous animal on the face of the earth is a man with a badge and gun. Neanderthals at best.

Sounds legit if he really did advise him multiple times to drop the knife. It was either him or the perp. Investigation is pretty standard when people start slinging lead.

I love how many of you idiots make light of shooting someone though, you guys sound like you do it every day. A cop may do it once in his life around these parts and it can be a life-altering thing. Smart money is half of you would wet yourself if you were ever in that situation, probably couldn't even get the safety off.

I agree, but if it's either you or the dude with the knife, you have to do what you have to do. No time to consider getting a taser out unless he's a football field away.

Easy to tell where you get your perspective from. Don't worry, I totally understand. This time of year sometimes the only place one can find warmth is up ones' own behind.

Daily Horoscope for June 19

Sagittarius

Don't be surprised if a member of the family is unpredictable or does things on the spur of the moment today. There's nothing to worry about because they won't do anything too alarming or disruptive. In fact, their actions will be like a breath of fresh air and they may even help you to escape from a current rut. So don't hesitate to be that little bit different yourself, either.
