Pennsylvania needs to move to the 21st century. Buying 6 packs in stores is a common occurrence in most states.

There's something wrong with the idea of buying takeout beer at a gas station...can't quite put my finger on it...

Aren't there enough impaired drivers on the road or do we need to make it even easier for them?

Most states allow this PA is just trying to hold onto the revenue generated from it. The same rules apply as if you were buying 6 packs from a bar. Their is nothing wrong with it. Access is a non-issue as their are already plenty of bars in this area to go to.

This is just wrong. That is why you have beer distributors or liquor stores. I know the revenue will help the state, but it won't help the convenience stores to try to keep an eye out for minors (or legal age) trying to slip out without paying because the clerks are busy with other customers, taking care of the gas pumps, etc.
And do we "really" need to have this in grocery stores also. If someone needs alcohol bad enough, then they should stock up on it at a beer distributor or state liquor store.
Or better yet, maybe we should just go ahead and show people how to build their own moonshine stills and sell it themselves.

Have you been to the Sheetz in Hanover on a Friday night? Just what we need is beer sales.

You can buy 6-packs of beer at a local bar, but how many people really want to go to a random bar just to get a 6-pack? I've done it before and it's half awkward, and even bothersome to the bar tenders. Bars are busy, loud, smokey, and people gawk at you as soon as you walk in. I'd much rather stop in at Sheetz or Rutters and casually grab a 6-pack to take home with me. I don't want to buy a huge case of beer at a distributor that will take me forever to drink. Besides, they take up a lot of room in the fridge too. Let's move on, people, it's 2008. I can honestly say that a gas station serving or selling beer is a bit weird, but having alcohol available in a grocery store is completely normal and it's common in OTHER STATES. Pennsylvania's just stupid and doesn't allow anything.

Shit! You people in Hanover can buy it M-S at your local distributor. Even on Sunday's you can buy it a bars. Or on sunday go five (5) miles across the Mason-Dixon line to Maryland. But, it sure isn't time for the Sheetz's and Rutter's to have this privlege, simply, because they cannot even control their gas pumps, or premises 24-7, how can they control alcohol sales after hours with personnel who can't even make correct change, or secure the location. THINK SMART, or pay the terrible price.

Heck this will solve the chili cook off problems. We can get our beer and walk to the cook off and drink.

It's time PA get with the times, sell beer in places of convenience. Bars charge way to much for a six pack carry out. I've lived in other states where beer was available in every gas station, convenience store and grocery store theres not many of the problems mentioned above. No more than the underage drinkers in this area. There's nothing wrong on a Friday evening stopping at the gas station to fill up the tank and grab a six pack to drink at home. If the sale of beer and liquor were more readily accessible in this area of PA more people would buy here rather than jump the line and buy in MD. That doesn't mean more people would buy they'd just buy more in their local town creating more revenue. Look at the border towns here I'm positive more people in Littlestown buy their take out alcoholic beverages in Silver Run and Penn Mar on the way to Taneytown rather than drive to Hanover or Gettysburg, it's a matter of convenience.

I think they should not sell beer at the gas station. Sell 6 packs at the beer distributor.

not to start huge debate here but some of you want beer to be sold at gas station(thats a what the hell in its self)but you look down on weed.i just dont get it.but i do agree with possibly selling it in grocery stores, but gas stations?hell of a message to send to people.fill up, buy your beer, then get into a drunk driving collision.sounds like a hell of a time!

Gas stations should be getting pretty "stiff" (if you know what I mean) at the thought of selling beer at their stores. They make more money selling stuff from their expensive stores than they do on gas, believe it or not. Imagine the profit boost alcohol would give them. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just stating a fact.
If gas stations start selling booze, maybe that terrorist organization Al-OPEC will find a way to get its hands on the industry so it can gouge us in a different way than they already do!!!

Yep I return to MD to get my beer and such since it is on my way and convienent. (hence the name conveinence stores) Going from Littlestown to Hanover State store is just a head ache on E. Drive.. WHAT A PAIN to get into and out of that parking lot on a Friday evenings. Also, as a single parent of a teenager, why should I buy a case when a six pack last me a month. It would just temp the teen visitors to sample some in the hopes I wouldn't notice. PA needs to GET OUT of the business of selling and just tax it and control it but most of all HIRE the personell to enforce the rules.

just because other states and other places are doing it doesn't mean PA has to do it. The old saying just because someone else is doing it doesn't make it right. And if buying a six pack lasts a month, then why not just stop at a bar, drink the one beer and go home or join a Moose, Amvets or Elks and then make sure you have a designated driver take you home.
If it's an inconvenience to drive a little more to get your beer or to stop at a bar and get gawked at (which they would do anyhow regardless what you came in for), then quit drinking. Think of how much money you would save.

Think of how much money you would save. It's not about copying other states, it's about evolving and adjusting to the times. Nothing (generally) stays the same for very long, and a lot of things need to be changed to better accommodate other changes. As for your comment about joining local clubs, it's just not feasible for many people including myself to pay the dues for a club just so we can have a beer or two once a week, or maybe less than that. Unless you want to go to socialize every Friday and/or Saturday night, it wouldn't make sense to go through the trouble and spend the money to join the Elks (just an example). For people who just like having a beer every now and then, it makes a lot of sense just to buy a six pack. Unfortunately, a lot of bars don't offer a big variety of booze, like the awesome Piper's outside of Manchester.

Sell 6 packs at the beer distributor. wasn't pa. lawmakers trying to pass a bill that beer distributors could sell by the 6 pk instead of a whole case. ask your local distributor, they will know. what's the difference, running in to your local vendor or trying to get to the register at minute markets(an oxymoron).
