Search leads to discovery of meth lab

HARRISBURG — The search of a home north of Harrisburg on Sunday night led authorities to find an active “1-pot” meth lab, Poinsett County Sheriff Larry Mills said.

Mills said deputies went to a home at 12791 Lily Lane around 8 p.m. Sunday after getting a report about a possible meth lab at the home.

There deputies Gary Drum and Bobby New said they saw Joshua A. FITZGERALD, 27, 93735 Cromwell Cutoff, Harrisburg, Paul Kirby, 45, 12791 Lily Lane and Matthew L. Travis, 39, 103 Wilson St., Harrisburg packing meth lab components into a dark colored bag.

FITZGERALD, Kirby and Travis then left the home but were ordered to get on the ground, Mills said.

Deputies allegedly found marijuana and crystal meth on both FITZGERALD and Travis.

Kirby reportedly gave authorities permission to search the home. They allegedly found a police scanner and several items used to make crystal meth, including the “1-pot” meth lab inside a clear 20-ounce soda bottle next to the bathtub.

FITZGERALD was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to manufacture, possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), possession of a controlled substance (meth), manufacture of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a communications device.

Kirby was arrested on suspicion of manufacture of a controlled substance (meth), possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to manufacture (meth), tampering with evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use.

Travis was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to manufacture, manufacture of a controlled substance (meth), possession of a controlled substance (meth) with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), tampering with evidence and unlawful use of a communications device.

A $100,000 cash bond was set for Kirby; and $25,000 bonds were set for FITZGERALD and Travis on Monday by Poinsett County District Judge Ron Hunter.

The three men will be arraigned March 21 in Circuit Court.

I was wondering if anyone knows which house this is. I have friends who live out there and the number of the address is pretty close to theirs.

We must bust all drug users. Nevermind the fact that there are plenty or rapes, child abuses, violent assaults, and other, more harmful crimes.

No. What I am saying is that we should prosecute crimes that have actual, measurable affect on the population before crimes that are victimless.
