Another Band Parent

Jonesboro, AR

My student is in band, and I couldn't disagree more with "a band parent" if I tried. My student loves band and it has been great for them. If you want to talk about teachers yelling and acting unprofessional, I know at least 5 that really do that. We are lucky to have these teachers in our school. It's a shame that some people try to bring them down.

Also, I know for a fact that Mr. Standridge has been offered another job. I heard he's probably going to take it. Shame on all of you who are driving away a great teacher. If he leaves, people like you and your kids will get what you deserve, but the rest of our kids will suffer for it.

Never happened, you psycho. I love how anyone can get on here and say anything. Who's your kid? Let's hear some proof. If it happened in front of other kids, ley's see who you and your kid are and find put. Gonna be hard though, cause it never happened. The only time I've ever heard any cussing is parents doing it. Come on, Who are you "guest". Who's your kid?

Mr. s did throw a music stand in class. It did hit a student, yes he did say he was sorry and would not do it again. It should not have happened the first time. Some students have to work after school to help support the family (not every one is rich). But it better not interfear with band or you are OUT OF BAND. Just this year he told a good senior trumper player that he could not work and be in the band after the student had given 110% and his heart and soul for 5 years. Then talked about him so bad to us students. Hate to hear what he will say about me and you if we quit!

I'm in Band too and what ACTUALLY happened was this. Mr. Standridge never said people couldn't work. He said they had to make sure their schedules worked out around band. All the other activities Athletics and everything else demands this, so I don't see why its any different for us. And that "good trumpet senior" was constantly back talking and undermining Mr. Standridge. We all saw it. There are many of us in Band who have jobs and manage to work our schedules around things. That "good band senior" thought he was better than everyone else and that the rules wouldn't apply to him. So, good riddance. And Mr. Standridge did NOT throw a stand, he pushed one over. I know that's a small difference, but I hate it when people exaggerate crap to try to make themselves sound better and feel more right. He did apologize and things have been better ever since. In case you haven't heard, he was suffering from depression and is on medication for it. He told us this too, and its been obvious because he has controlled his temper. This year was great. One good example, that "good senior" pulled that crap in class and Mr. Standridge didn't lose his cool at all. He simply told him if he did not like following the rule, he needed to leave. Which Luckey, OOPS, I mean "a good band senior" did.

Mr. S is the best teacher at our school. He's not perfect, but he's a heck of a lot better than the other teachers. He cares about us. He pushes us to do our best at all times in all aspects. If that "Good band senior" didn't want to follow the rules like everyone else, good riddance. I'm glad he got out. So, Allison, Luckey, James, and Becky, stop posting crap on here you can't back up. Everyone knows its you. I hope Mr. S finds out that his "color guard section leader" is doing this crap.

Dear " BAND STUDENT" jonesboro ar

Please note that I am using my name yes I am Luckey's mom. I have never been on this site and would not be here now, but my co workers informed me of your remarks. I have never said an unkind word to or about Mr. Standridge. We have had a good relationship and open communication for 6 years and still do. The problem he and Luckey had was between them. He call me after the class was over we discussed it as adults, never was there an unkind word spoken by Mr. Standridge or me. I understand your being upset about negative remarks being posted about Mr. Standridge but next time please ask me before you add me to your list of suspects.

Guess what, this isn't Vanessa, Jackass. And this isn't what this discussion is about anyway. Everybody's on here trashing Mr. S, and I won't tolerate it. Even "Becky" said so herself that Mr. S did everything correctly, even called her after it happened.

Let's face facts...a lot of people are just trying to bash the band program because its successful. And Mr. S is one of the best role models I've had in my life. Here are a few examples:
-He never puts winning first...he always tells us to do our best. We've won competitions before and yet, because of his teaching, we knew it wasn't good enough because we fell short of our performance goal. But, there were a few times we came in second and Mr. S told us how proud of us he was because we did achieve our performance goals. I like a teacher that places more importance on what we do than what trophy we get.
-He went through a tough time a year ago. We all knew something was wrong...he needed medication, he just didn't know it. After the big blow up, he apologized to us and said he knew something was wrong and something needed to change. He has changed. He still gets frustrated sometimes, but its nothing like it was. Band was great this year...my favorite year ever. He changed for US. He became an even better teacher for US, and I respect him for putting us and our feelings first.
-He never lets up. I was having trouble with my All-Region music...he stayed after many days to tutor me and make me better. I didn't make All-Region and he still patted me on the back and told me he was proud of me...he said I had improved a lot. He showed me that he valued me for my education, not some honor band.
-He is there for us. If we have problems, he listens and only gives advice if we ask for it. Its great to have someone in your life who will listen to your problems and not judge you.
-He is a hard worker. He is the hardest working person I know. He teaches us, composes, teaches after school, runs a community band, and all kinds of other stuff to make the music community better.

I could give a bunch of other examples, but I think these speak volumes. Mr. S is exactly the kind of teacher we need in our lives. He's a better role model than my own parents are. I thought about quitting school and he talked me into staying in...I think he's the only person that could. Do you know how he did it? Very simple. He said, "You are important to me and you have a lot of potential. Even if you don't stay in band, I'd be very disappointed if you quit school."

So this is the monster y'all are talking about? Get your facts straight.

P.S.---Becky, I'm sorry I included your name. I blew up and made a mistake.
