You might want to rethink Vitale's logic behind this. Drive through Harper Woods and Eastpointe and see the basketball nets up in the streets. Kids walking down the middle of the street. Try to get them to move. Detroit has long past moved beyond 8 mile. Many of use moved here to get away from the blight that has hit these once fine cities. SCS needs to find away to stop this without bringing in Rev. Jackson and Sharpton here.

Can't disagree with what you said about Harper Woods and Eastpointe. But SCS will soon be just like them. Why? Because for years and years and years the people running this city have spent all their time developing things like the Nautical Mile. Whatever the Nautical Mile needed, it got. Nobody worried about the SCS neighborhoods. Homes were allowed to continue to deteriorate. Only recently did our city leaders start showing interest in how our neighborhoods looked. The problem is now doing something about it. How do you tell SCS residents that they have to start following the ordinances that they've been breaking for the last 30 years? Had the previous SCS administrations stayed on top of things the "appearance" of our neighborhoods would look more like Grosse Pointe than Eastpointe. And our taxes wouldn't be any higher than they are now.

So playing hockey in the street is ok because it's mostly white kids. We have laws that already address this issue and all you need to do is call the cops. If the cops aren't doing their jobs, then bring it to council's attention. Vitale wanting to create a new law for this is crazy. He ran on less government in our lives and doesn't even want the city putting rat bate in people's yards, but now he wants our streets protected from kids playing games. I wish I could take my vote back for this guy.

Hockey Fan, I have never run into a bunch of kids playing hockey that didn't move out of the street for a car. Kids playing basketball is a different story. If its a black and white issue as your trying to say. I guess I have to agree with you. I grew up in Detroit, bought my first house there, lived there till i was 30. Guess why I moved? Moved to Harper Woods and lived there until I was 50. Guess why I moved? not because "mostly white kids" playing in the street. I've only lived here for 6 years, I don't want to move again.

City Council, you better figure out how to keep us here.

I haven't run into kids playing in the street that haven't gotten out of the way when a car comes along. Not sure with what type of sport they are playing has to do with it. Does this Vitale charactor want us to obtain a permit to go outside next.

He needs to get a pet, maybe a parrot. Then he can teach it to tell him how great he is all the time to boost up his ego even more. Just a suggestion to get him off going after residents. I think anyone that proudly post pictures of his neighbors garbage and the violation at a council meeting is one angry person. Try talking to your neighbors mad man.

So if kids are playing in their yard and the ball goes in the street when a cop passes by do they get fined? Really? Kids have played in the street forever. Remember "Game off" & "Game on"? If you have a problem with cars speeding on your street have all the neighbors call the cops. BTW as for BBall nets and such left in the street there is an ordinance against it already.

The only game he is playing is save his own hide .He has been compromised over his own stupid oversites of blight and permits. The once proud voice is now silenced. Play along to get along. Another one bites the dust after only 4 months.

I see Vitale brought up kids playing in the street again. This time he included hockey as well. So much for hockey town. He would fit in better at hick town with that suit he wore at the council meeting. Stood out like a sore tacky thumb.

Perhaps at the next council meeting he'll add kids riding bicyles in the street? Or when crossing the street they need to cross at the corner and not in the middle of the block. Can't wait to hear what he has to say when the schools let out for the summer and the kids are everywhere.

He is antikid and somehow thinks kids playing in the street are bad for property values. I don't see any of the other council members jumping on board. They know better. At least I hope they do.
