Soliciting---Rats--12/Greater Mack Area

I wished to alert our neighbors about
the rat problem on our street in the
12/Grtr Mack area. My husband and
I wished to pass out (under welcome
mats) notices so they too could trap.
However the city code enforcement
told me that that would be "soliciting."
We would need a permit to do so. That
would require a fee. I am still waiting
from the city's legal dep't. on an answer.
Should neighbors require a permit to
communicate and eradicat rats on their

You would need a permit what a joke. We have TWO NO SOLICITING stickers on our door and they still come and still knock/ring bell- two weeks ago it was after 9:30 p.m. No we did not answer. When you call the police about these solicitors they do nothing. I asked one once "can you not read" they replied you have to listen to this! I give up!
Saint Clair Shores is a joke!

You are being very kind to let your neighbors know. Just hand paint a sign and put it on your lawn (not the city part by the street)because as a neighbor with kids and pets I would want to know. It does not have to be a large sign just one that would alert neighbors!

Can you be more specific as to the area? My mother lives near 12/greater mack and I have looked for signs of rats including setting traps and putting out poison and have found none. She is south of 12 mile. You must be north of 12 mile?

Please stop talking about rats on this public internet forum. I doesn't portray a good image for the city.

I did not bring us unfavorably into the
public eye by asking people to turn in
(in plastic bags) dead rats. I'm sure
the employees would not like to handle
them. I understand --it was in a news-
paper-- that we were on "Animal Planet."
Many businesses are not closing their
large garbage bins' tops.
Call the city and ask them if your
relative's street is affected. They
have a wonderful rat information and
abatement show on cable that plays
many times daily.
I did put out a sign and was told to take
it down. In my small tree. On city
portion. My neighbors have thanked us
before ...last year.. We can't do this
ourselves. I'm not sure we are allowed
to put it anywhere.
The rat inspectors said our yard was okay. They were very nice and helpful.
Bird feeders, dog droppings, vegetable
gardens, barbecues, attract them per
information given us through talking with others in stores etc.
Hope this helps....we are tired older
citizens . We toss our cheap traps out
in a special metal can and have a special
Don't give up on this city. We have
lived in other cities...and this is the
best ever.!!!!!!!West side ones also.

My dog got pregnant from a rat the litter was wild and ran outside. They live under wood piles and eat their own feetsees probably because they are half dog.
Them SOBs tryed to bite me one day I threw some fire crackers at them but I forgot to light them first.

We see more rats because the pesticides cause the rats to stagger about, dazed but not yet dead and this goes on for days before the rats succumb, in the meantime making them easy targets for other predators
The city is responsible for having a reckless bate program.

Barton --Between Greater Mack and Jefferson.
Also heard on a council meeting broadcast
a few meetings ago....Courteville was
also having a population of rodents.
Open-- top garbage receptacles could be
a probem throughout the city...like at
the fronts of stores....and also the huge
types that WM picks up with metal arms.
Years ago the park at Masonic and Jefferson
had just metal cans open top-wise.The stores
need to close the huge ones.
Landscape Service was very nice and
informative as well as the rat info.
program on cable. Rats love dog feces...
left two out on two occasions over 2 yrs--
ill and not home....and they vanished
/gone the next day .Get a plastic container
for feces and use a zip-lock or grocery
bag to pick-up. Dump into big garbage
container often till pick up day.
Get a shovel for rat pick- up ONLY and a
closed plastic or metal can and use
wooden traps for two dollars at Home
Depot. Just pick up the trap and rat
and toss if you can spare the cost.
No need to touch /handle anything.
My husband baits and does disposal
Hope this helps....just saw one about
10 feet from my house while peering out
the patio window to see the BACK
property line trap that was set.We passed
inspection;but they use this yard as a
connector to other yards.

mistake....connector property should
be eliminated at bottom of post.

Sounds as though LSI & SCS found an over flow of tax dollars and are going to reduce it with another reckless baiting program.
