Do we really want fairness in this country? Do we really want to get out of debt? Do we really want to be able to have the money it takes to provide food stamps and welfare for the less fortunate? Do we really want to have money available for foreign aid to Africa and other countries? I sure hope so, and, if we do, there is an easy way to get the money: RAISE THE TAX RATE TO 50% FOR EVERYONE EARNING MORE THAN $50,000 and, in order to be very fair, THOSE EARNING UNDER $50,000 would pay no taxes. Sound good? If we did that, 80% of the people would pay no taxes. Now, it is just 49%. The 20% who paid taxes at the 50% rate would more than make up the difference. IN OTHER WORDS, WE NEED A 50-50 PLAN: THOSE WHO MAKE OVER $50,000 A YEAR PAY 50% TAXES. That would help bail out all the lower middle class and the poor people. What do you think?

Sorry, I got the post wrong. It should read %50,000 instead of %75,000. At first I was thinking $75,000 until I did the math.

Great idea, I would just revise the suggestion a bit. Let all of us pay a flat 40% on all income over $20,000. On $20,000 income as an example, one would pay only $8,000 in taxes. Then those making 70,000 would need to fork over a big $28,000 and so it goes. This would give our government plenty tax money to bounce our budget and get us on sound footing. This is only fair, then we can all share and share alike. We should only take 20% flat on all income below $20,000 per family and only 25% individual income over $15,000. This would encourage couples to get married to save big time on taxes.

I don't think people who make $50,000 + should have to pay that much in taxes. If the government would get the deadbeats off the teat and make them work for their welfare benefits and charge them their fair share of taxes things would even out. If an unmarried girl has one child and needs help UNTIL she gets back on her feet, fine. But to keep having baby after baby to increase their income and expect the hard working people to dole more and more of their income to deadbeat DADS and MOMS is outrageous. Giving a SSI check to someone because their drug addicted is asinine and needs to be a a STOPPED.

I agree with the opinion of the Louisa poster, or though I did, until I read the posts from Seminole and Stanton. Very good ideas guys.

Sounds like everyone would be better off on making less than $50,000 based on your plan and most people between than and $75,000 would take pay cuts (work less hours) in order to avoid paying the 50%...I know that I would. There would be no one left to pay the taxes to keep the deadbeats up then. I say there should be a federal flat tax of 10% on everyone, including the ones who draw a government check.

Thank you very much. I just know the Government needs plenty of tax money. You remember we had in 2009 some big number, I think around 450,000 (Billion "B" as in Bill) stimulus spending and it created many jobs for our sick economy. Most of us waste our money anyway, the Government will spend it well for us. Please don't resent paying high taxes - how can all of us be taken care of without big tax revenue. Our problem now with the economy, is there is simply not enough money to spend to create jobs.

You're joking right??? I believe my money would be better spent on my own family instead of of paying for someone else's cigarettes or drug habit or sending it overseas to support countries that hate us. And don't tell me I'm wrong because I see it in action everyday.

Are You Kidding has a good opinion and I understand it, but I do not agree. I believe in high taxes for all working people so that the government will have lots of money for people who don't work. It is true that a few people who don't work choose that path and give others on welfare and food stamps a bad name, but the bigger picture is there are lots of poor people (yes, some of them have drug habits) that we, the working people, need to take care of. Higher taxes does that.

Why should I have to pay higher taxes to support deadbeat dads and moms and drug addicts? I work hard for the money I earn and don't feel like I should just dish out part of it to strangers. I don't mind paying my fair share of taxes or paying my 10% to the church. I want to send my kid to college and if I have to pay more in taxes that is going to put a dent in the college fund we've been saving since the day he was born. If a person is truly ill I have no problem paying taxes or even sending them money anonomously to help them out. I have done that several times, not to be bragging but just letting you know I am not a hard hearted person. Put the SSI, welfare cheats, food stamp sellers and drug abusers and dealers in a prison where they had to work, get clean and quit selling. I'd be glad to contribute to that. In my community alone there are 7 dealers and get this, they all draw SSI because they are too lazy to work. The abusers spend their SSI checks to buy the drugs and sell their food stamp cards for drugs. Take the children away from them and put them in homes with people that will really care for them. I know the kids can't help what the parents do, but if the kids aren't taken the cycle just keeps repeating itself. That's my rant for the night.

Oh Rob, you don't want the poor to have welfare or SSI money just because they abuse drugs. The drug abuse helps them cope with the world they cannot succeed in. I say take half of the money that everyone who works make as taxes. That leaves half of the money in the hands of people like you, you know, the Republicans. That would then give our government money for people like me, you know, Democrat people. Aint that fair, Rob? Half and half? Just my opinion. Going to bed. I was up and out all night.

I don't know about "well played" but I agree, the Government is short of revenue. If many would give up that six pack, or two or three, six packs per week, more taxes would not hurt any of us. Also, movies, bowling, vacations, ball games, etc., will need to be curtailed if we are to help our government. No one enjoys paying tax, we all would like to keep more for leisure. We have to change our culture and understand our government knows how to spend our tax money in a wise fashion. I admit there is a little waste in Government, but Obama will weed that waste out shortly.

Additionally, I will add those big T-bones, prime ribs, inch thick pork chops we all like to eat is another reason that higher tax will hurt us. We need to go back to chicken, baloney, bacon and stop eating high on hog all those expensive restaurants.

Is this Obama posing as someone else? No one else would be this damn stupid to offer up this suggestion...except maybe another liberal democrat.

Very smart, Paul Revere. Yes, I guess I am a liberal Democrat. So what? Do you work? If you do, I want half of yo money. What is not fair about that? We just had an election and that is what the people voted in. People from Mexico can come here and get on welfare and them not even citizens. I admit I dont like that. Kick them back and give that free money to us that dont work. What do you think?
