He's done more good in the last year than has been done in the past 20. Hope they stay in house though this time. Danny will do a good job and will continue on the path that Whitten has started.

He's done more good in the last year than has been done in the past 20. Are you kidding? You obviously have not worked in the department "in the past 20." He came to CPD after having worked at his previous department for ONE YEAR, then he scrambles the entire department up, then walks away, after ONE YEAR. And, Jim Koch had a colorful personality, but he brought a level of professionalism to the department that hasn't really been matched before or since. Koch also stuck it out for around 11 years, not one. I do agree with you in one point: Danny Fierro would do a good job. He's intelligent, articulate, and generally a nice guy. He will have his own ideas that I hope the City allows him to implement, and hopefully will not follow in some of Whitten's areas.

Maybe the Current Argus should rename itself the "News of the World"?
Seems to me that when someone attempts to publish the truth about city government, the comments mysteriously disappear?!?! But of course
that is an ironic statement, thick to the point of being sarcastic, nay, even cynical. I think the citizenry deserve an explanation why
the police chief is really leaving this wonderful community! Has the Casey Anthony trial really taken the wind out of justice seekers and
truth cravers!?! Has Relativity Theory really infected the realm of morality and justice? But even so, the speed of light was the universal
stop sign in Einstein's theory. Is there not an analog in our human criminal justice system? God is Dead! So Friedrich Nietzsche, you are the
Superman! I will now read your books one by one - first, the The Birth of Tragedy out of the Dying Spirit of Carlsbad!

Koch wasn't much of a detective. He wasn't even able to tell when he was being snowed and lied to by other city department heads.

As someone who has been in law enforcement a long time and seen Chief's come and go, there is no mystery to Whitten's departure. It is common knowledge that the first year on the job as a Chief is a "honeymoon" period in which there is lots of good will and leniency to make changes and implement new philosophies or procedures. After that first year, the community expectations and City demands become more demanding. It would appear that Whitten does not want to stick around for that as apparent in both of his stints as Chief. It will be curious to see what happens at his new place in about a year...

He went to Nebraska to follow his daughter to college, and then she did not go, so he wanted to get back closer to El Paso. As far as this change... how about a boost of 20,000+ to your salary for motivation?

I know a lot about the changes and how many didn't like the change, but it's been overall good for the PD and the community. Change is never easy.

Dear HaHa....Try harder to follow the decision process here...

(First decision) He came back from Nebraska to get back closer to El Paso (since his daughter didn't end up going to school in Nebraska).

(2nd decision) He took a job for more $$$ to leave here. These are two separate issues/decisions. is that more clear for you?

It appears his track record is one year then gone... like Man In Blue said, the first year is a honeymoon, expectations are low as he is trying to get his bearings, however he's like a locust. He takes precious time away from getting a Real Chief that is going to support his men and women in uniform. One that believes in the community he serves. Not one looking out for himself. He looks good on paper, talks a good talk... but then so did the carpet baggers of old.

Being a cop means you're a public servant, not a servant to yourself. You help those that need help, not help yourself to the hard work of others. I just hope that this person is asked to make a real decision... other than lining his wallet, he can't! Anyone want to buy some snake oil.

We need a chief who understands the litany against fear:

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

We need the Quisatz Haderach, aieeeeeeee.

Grown in a Tleilaxu flesh vat, the maggot infested bloated lecherous pig director has preyed on city hall workers for decades, hand picking and hiring his victims, molesting, fondling, harassing, pouting and throwing fits when caught, attempting payback on those unwilling to play, spreading disease and filth on those eager to please, existing like a uranium-enriched tumor on the city's cowardice and unwillingness to excise and cauterize his disease! Nobody had the courage to call him out and demand accountability! Allowed to have dirty sex at city hall and city property - a molded, dung coated hump-monster groping his way around the corridors, the lurker in the lobby! Damn! Where is Duncan Idaho when you need a good ghola! Leto! Save us!
