I moved here last Nov. I think 12,000 per year realestate tax is MORE THAN ENOUGHT!

Some basic questions for you:

1. Where did you move from to Harleysville? Did they provide township, borough, or county support for the local EMS provider?
2. The township is currently providing $9.62 per household to the EMS through this tax. The total amount to be sent to the ambulance is a drop in the bucket of what it costs to run a 911 provider. If 90% of the residents do not subscribe to the organization where else should the EMS seek funding for a service the township needs to provide?
3. If the EMS goes out of business and the township takes over or has to contract out to another provider you will see your tax triple for this service.
4. I hate taxes as much as the next guy, but if you want to have basic 911 services there is a price to be paid.

How is your return on billing?
What about the other townships that you run 50% of your calls in?
Are they helping to support you as well or are the residents of Lower Salford paying for you to service them?
I have no problem paying for EMS service but you only run half your calls in the township. And if those townships are helping please publicize it so the residents don't get a misconception or draw false conclusions.

The vast majority of our calls are in Lower Salford Township where we are the only provider of EMS services. Franconia Township has 3 EMS providers due to its size so it is unlikely that they would provide the same type of support that Lower Salford does. Additionally, the vast majority of our call volume in Franconia comes from one facility and the residents of said facility are for the most part subscribers to our service. Good questions. We of course would never turn away any tax support offered.

Sorry I did not answer you question on billing. Our return is a little better than average. Unfortunately, the health insurance companies are playing games with the amounts they are mandated to pay. In some cases they mail the payment for our services to residents that end up pocketing the reimbursement. The simple fact of this situation is coming to a head in Montgomery County. In the next 10 years our taxes will go up because the state/county will have to step in and take over providing of EMS and most likely fire suppression services as the training demands and unfunded mandates continue to push volunteers from the ranks.

Thanks for the response Mike. Peter Becker and Maplewood should buy you an ambulance themselves for the amount of calls you have there :) Good Luck in the future and keep the residents educated. Once they have to start paying taxes for a non township owned entity that has paid employees it can get a bit dirty. If it gets to bad just have the township owned EMS like Cheltenham or something. One way to get around the politics. You will be just like the road crew and police salaries paid by twp. tax dollars
