Hey min.wage you seem pretty miserable with your job so why don't you come work at arh? Then maybe you will understand why the union workers are fighting. Btw there are people working at arh that make minimum wage so of course they will fight it to not have to pay out more for insurance!

I am no where near miserable with my job, I am very glad I have a job and that my husband does also. that is my point, we are glad we have them even if they are min. wage. stop crying about not having something and walk out on a job because you are going to have to pay more for insurance when so many others do not even have the option of insurance. I would love to have a job at ARH but like everything else in harlan it is who you know not what you know. do you think that with all the people in this town laid off from work that anyone of them would not like to have a job any job, no matter if they had insurance or not. so they would not have to worry about paying for a roof over their childs head.

the workers who go on strike for fear of being given a hard time when the strike is over, what are you going to say to them if they lose their home while they are on strike? are you going to care that they lost everything while trying to make sure you have insurance. No you are not going to care, some will get out there and run their mouths and call people names, and then have to turn around and work with them again, or send their kids to school with the other persons kid.

what about all those Union dues you pay, could you not take the amount you pay in those and pay for your insurance? I am sorry I don't know every detail of the contract, and I maybe wrong but it just seems really petty the things that you all are on here talking about, when so many people are out of work and worried about if they are going to lose their homes, cars, how to pay for utilities, and raise their children. it is time to put your priorities in order and decide what you need more, a home and heat or insurance and double time on holidays.

I worked for that cesspool for many years. I have a lot of family & friends who still do. The ARH company is a prostitute, they'll screw anyone for money. I was also screwed over by the union. I don't hold that against unions in general, just the useless as tits on a boar hog president. No matter what, I'm for the workers! Walk out of that hell hole with your heads held high! Fight for what you deserve!

You jokers who are downing the Union must not have a job, In a non-union place of employment you can be fired for wearing non matching sock, if they want you gone, Give me a union to protect me from management. Oh by the way I have worked for 30 years, worked hard, did not call in sick just because I did not feel like working that day, an I have never backed up when they hand me my paycheck, cause I earned it.

go ahead and cross the picket line, you would have anyone to fight for you when the Company decides they want you gone.

The union sucks! So what you have to pay a little bitty insurance fee, all Americans have to pay for insurance it is in OBAMA'S Healthcare laws. Your pathetic worker who hide behind a union because you don't want to work you lazy price of crap. Last strike you all voted for the new hires to be at minimum wage for 3 years and this new contract ARH is offering better incentives for new workers. Yet, you don't want new workers to get paid a decent wage and you probably bitch because your short staffed now. It is your own unions fault for being that way bunch on greedy people. What about the ones who sat on the line last time and don't even work for ARH or even held a JOB! This is real funny, maybe our laid off miners can get a job!:)
Obviously you are not very up to date on insurance coverage. All Americans DO NOT pay for healthcare. Their are far to many Medicaid people that could work just as well as us "lazy piece of crap" union people that don't pay shit for healthcare. And that's the very ones that will complain about things they no nothing about. Like a WORKERS union. If you have never worked a damn day in your life you don't deserve to say anything about what we ask for. We're not asking for more, we're asking to not loose what we have. And this crap about better incentives for new hires tells me you don't have a clue what you are talking about since the new hires will make 7.75 for 10 years!!! Dumb shit. Don't run your mouth if you don't understand! Lol!

I've also worked many years, Never needed someone to protect me. Just like i've always said, unions are for the weak and lazy people. If you feel you need protection then you know in your heart that you're lazy or don't do your job. Union workers favorite saying, "THAT'S NOT MY JOB"....

my dad was in the hospital one time, he had an accident with his urine bottle. I went to the nurses station asked for a mop, they said they did not have one that they would have to call housekeeping. waited, about 30 min. went back to nurses station she said honey I thought they done came and took care of it, I told them I did not want my dad to get up and maybe slip and fall, I tried to get up what I could with paper towels but it needed a mop. I told her if she would just tell me where I could get one I would do it, it wasn't a problem. and I was told that if they the nurses or nurse aid mopped it up or if they gave me a mop to do it, then the housekeeping could file charges with union because they was trying to do away with a union workers job. no one ever did come to clean it up they called for housekeeping 3 times I finally just used enough paper towels and sanitizer to clean it up.

I worked there for several years and was on the picket line with the rest waiting and hoping for a good contract but we didn't get what we wanted and went back in on a half-ass contract, which was our fault for accepting it, but since i've been gone it seems like they are taking more and more from the steelworkers and giving more and more to the company and that's not how it should be. they need to elect a new prez and vice and get all new people in there who aren't in the company's pocket and aren't afraid to stand up for the union workers. I totally understand both sides of the argument as far as crossing and not crossing the line goes and to me its a personal choice. If someone crosses and an employee holds their choice against them and quits talking to them then you weren't really a friend to them to start with. If you were, you would see if from their point of view and try to understand it instead of ignoring them and treating them like shit for a personal decision they made to support their families. On the other hand, if you are a friend to someone who does go on the line and you quit talking to them then the same goes for you as well. I don't want to see it come to a strike again because I have a lot of friends who still work there and I don't want to see them go through the crap we went through when I was there, but until they all decide to come together and make some decisions in the next election, things are only going to get worse as it goes on. ARH makes money every year people, don't think it doesn't. They will take all you will let them take and if the USW doesn't get some good representation in there, someone who isn't a corporate whore, then they will continue to lose benefits, wages and anything else that can be taken away from them. I'm hoping a strike doesn't happen but if it does, I hope the steelworkers can hold out until they get what they want not what ARH wants them to have. I am so glad I don't work there any more and have a job that I love making the same amount of money without all the BS of putting up with stuff that goes on out there.

I was told today if a strike happens arh will be taken over by anouther like wellmont or a couple outhers that their will be no deal this time.
I hope it does and every one that walks out loses their job
And gets blacked balled in the medical field.
This would not be the first time it has happen that a company sold out to get rid of the union.

If you really want to make a difference think long and hard about it. You may be losing a pay check or so but what you are teaching your children about being strong and standing in what you believe is priceless, one day they may need a job @ ARH do you really want to ruin it for them now? Do you really want to cross the picket line and possibly have them working for base pay for 10 yrs. All union employees knew that ARH was union when they applied for the job, if you weren't willing to accept the fact that stikes happen then you should have kept looking for another job! We have no choice but to stick together and stand stong. Cry all your tears (because I have) and then put on your big girl panties and lets hit the pavement if necessary.

Even if they sale or there is a buy out, it says that (I believe this is still right) the doors have to be closed for 1 yr. no one is going to buy and close the doors for a yr.

I'm gonna do it just like I do now!!! I have as much right to work and provide as they do to strike!!! If they don't want to talk to me over that then they've got a problem bigger than a strike!!! You people have NO CLUE!!! Last strike we stood out there for 26 days...and went back on THE SAME contract we went out over!!! If you'll go look at this contract it's not that bad for the employees that are there now...we have no representation as far as the union, unless you are a lazy piece of trash, USW was gone a long time ago... Support yourselves and your family...don't be intimidated by people who are going to get paid just like they are at work PLUS strike pay...while you and yours do without!!!
