My children go there and the only reason they rank so low is because of the principal. That school needs new management in the worst way. But also, if the parents would push and be more active in the school and their child's education then it would rank higher.
Hmm

I have to agree. The principal is terrible and he is why no parents want to be involved at the school. This has been an issue for YEARS and the county school board is fully aware and has let him drag that school down. There should be complete outrage. A few years ago they were about to be taken over by the state due to No Child Left Behind laws but pulled their scores up. It's too bad that didn't happen. If they go back on probation, they will have to bus your child to whichever county school you choose. Also, call the county board and complain, it won't get you anywhere but make sure to get Frankforts # before hanging up and call them too!

Yeah my children are young and just started there last year. Very good teachers this year. I just don't see why others are not really upset by this.

it has to be more wrong than a principal.

The principal oversees the teachers, curriculum, classes, employees, etc. So if there is something more wrong than just the principal, it falls back on the principal. If a business fails because of the employees it's the boss's fault. See what I mean. He needs to stand up listen to the parents and change things for the betterment of his school and children. Other schools in this area are doing well academically, but I have met many of the principals and they put academics as a priority.

My kids go to jac also, I don't have any complaints. My kids test high. Here is what I wonder....teachers are all employees of the harlan county school system. You have Rosspoint that scores way up there every year, why not switch out teachers sometimes...see if it makes a difference? You can't tell me that you have one set of teachers that are the best of the best. And another set that don't know anything. Also...of the kids I know, they are very kind children...some may not come from money or have a "name" that people know.....but they have character, and quite a few seems to be cast offs from Rosspoint and Cawood elem. Last time I checked Rosspoint is NOT a private school or an academy...so please stop acting like it.....I hear they only "teach the test" from parents and employees from there...not sure how much truth is in that, but there ya go.

I don't think they deny this at Rosspoint. Lots of talk also about the principal. Sometimes a principal can be undercut by people who are all around. I've heard that he expects teachers to have a high expectation. Parents should go to the council meetings and volunteer. No one man or woman can make that much difference in test scores.

I think having high test scores is important, but what happened to teaching kids life skills also? When I went to school they taught you manners and being a good sport, and how to be kind to one another. That's why you have kids that will know they outranked the other county schools and not know how to be gracious about it. But will try to rub it in and talk about how much better they are than anyone else. That doesn't sound like a well rounded child to me.

There are some good and bad teachers at Jaces. When you have teachers that are "tenure" then the Principal can not get rid of them. All it takes is a few bad ones in the lower grades to stop a child growing in their education.

Out of 22 teachers you have 6 that are bad teachers. My kids were there and in these teachers classes they learned nothing. On this list 2-6 are all working with kids in k-5th grades. That is alot of bad teachers in one area.
You are an idiot. Some of those aren't even "classroom" teachers.

They all have class rooms there. I seen them in their own rooms. The only one that is ify is Melody Candady. Never seen her in a class room at Jaces or Halls. She walks around talking to everyone but not a student in site of her anywhere. Jamie Howard is special ed but should have retired 10 yrs ago. She was hateful to everyone. Every teacher and student hates her.

Mrs.Canady is a reading specialist..she goes around to different classrooms and also goes to other schools occasionally. Stacy Noe teaches physical education. Linda Lewis and Angel Gross are excellent teachers. You shouldn't even be on here if your child doesn't go to the school.

Noe was a social studies teacher before and if Canady is a reading specialist shouldn't she be in a classroom any classroom instead of at Walmart during the day? in the hallways talking to Howard? Crap you learned more gossip just standing near those two then anyone else in the school. Unless it is Sue Noe. She would just talk and talk to them about students and their parents. I can't imagine they have changed in the last year that much. Howard was so hateful to those kids. She jerked then around, yelled in their faces, and then would just smile at you like she didn't just hurt a kid.

Some people really have no clue how the school system works. You are given a set of standards that the department of education says your students should know by the years end. Why on Earth would you not teach what they give you? If you want to call that teaching to the test then fine...that is what you are supposed to do. Good teachers will fill in other teachings o life lessons as they go and are able, but your responsibility is to teach the kids what your superiors tell you they should know an will be tested on.

not all teachers hate Jamie Howard but most does she has her click. All students hate her she thinks she is the principal herself. Two faced as can be. Treats kids like they are nothing, also the aids are treated terriable by her, she thinks she owns the school. Puts all her work on the other special needs teachers. Friends with the big dogs the reason she does what she wants and gets away with it, hope some parent catches spanking their child with her hand without their permissio, She needs to be out of the school completely, When most of these teachers get their tenure they don't teach anymore they let the kids go wild. Tenure should be done away with then when you aren't doing your job then you would be a goner.
