<quoted text>Wonder why they just dont call it Bennett and Sons Mining? But I guess they ALL make Money from it and do THEY also run Karst n Robbins and the rest of the places?
Idk. Ask them why they call it that. Actually, whoever put that about Florida is right. And no, Clyde's sons own Karst Robbins. The only business that Manalapan has with that crew is that they lease the land at Highsplint to Clyde's sons.

I've only worked there for about 8 months but I'll tell you what I DO know. Manalapan pays very good wages. They're just about a buck below what Lone Mt. and Black Mt. Resources pay and they're both ARCH (well, atleast I've always heard that ARCH backed BMS behind the scenes). Anyways, they support alot of families in Harlan and Bell Counties and more importantly, they haven't had an underground fatalaty since 1992. Although a coal truck driver did get killed back in the late 90's.#12 Mine, the one that has come under scrutiny of late, has had 2 reported work related injuries in the past 17 months and neither guy had to miss more than 3 days of work.
Spoke too soon.

I With all these so called government agencies running around checking on everything I don't see how these kind of operator sleep at night let alone stay up and operating. If I lived in Eastern Kentucky I take the pin heads down into their mine drop them off in the worse spot leave and turn off the lights. Nasty lot of people , not miners operator owners ceo's.

Well I know a few guys who work for manalpan and they don't make even close to what lone mt pays! They told me operator pay is 17 and bolt pay is 18.but they told me the coal and attendance makes up for the low hourly wages.i don't know for sure but no matter what the pay is a man has to work and provide for his family! I personally would make it a last resort to work there and I would have to be in bad shape to even consider it.

Arch does not back or have anything to do with Black Mtn and has not since the 37 mine days. That belongs to Alpha Natural Resources now. How do I know? Because I work for Arch. Now, the difference between the Bennetts and Lone Mtn. is that the Bennetts are very much like working for Massey (I've worked for or around all of them)production 1st, safety.....a distant 2nd. Although, the pay may not be far off, the safety and security aspect is a peace of mind none of the others can buy.

The Kentucky Office of Mine Safety and Licensing is investigating a mining fatality in Harlan County, the second that has occurred in 2011 in the state, according to Dick Brown, a spokesman for the state Energy and Environment Cabinet.

So what you are telling us all is that you work for them and that you know all of the workers that were laid off. Maybe your dumbass should have been laid off with theirs. Where is the office so I can let them know that they still have a dumbass working for them.

There was a bunch of men laid off last week from Manalapan, it wasnt because the men were lazy or on drugs, they do random drug test on them, if that was case it would of been fired men, not laid off, there was men that had worked for that company over 20 years that was laid off. The men have been laid off in the past then went back, most of the ones laid off will eventually go back, that is if they haven't found another job in the meantime. The unemployment they are drawing is better than most people's regular pay weekly.

I heard they didn't have any "safe havens" in the mine and they have to put those in place before they can start back.

You are correct to Dont believe it.

The strip mine people were laid of because of some creatures"some kind of tadpoles or some thing like that"that live in the water where their wanting to strip at.or thats what I was told by one of the men that got laid off.
