I agree 100%. Dr Ramsey was always nice and excellent with children, but once there was an elderly person there that was brought in with chest pains and he didn't seem to take them seriously, I felt sorry for that couple.
I am still trying to find the records from years ago to see who the doctor in the ER was that REFUSED to transport a patient when they were bleeding profusely. Every single person I talked to that day said it wasn't possible to use the ambulance service unless a dr referred. Looking back, we should have filed a complaint with the JCAHO.

It is not just Harlan that is bad. I was out of town a few months ago and had to go to the ER and it was alot worse. Just cause I work there does not mean I take up the ARH. I have seen them do some crazy things, but it happens everywhere. I have also seen Harlan take really good care of people.

The ER is nasty. Next time you are there, look at the wheels on the beds, the IV poles, the trash can, the baseboards around the walls. Look how nasty they are. The cafeteria is a joke, no one wants to eat there anymore. We need a good hospital.

Some of the employees go outside the hospital and talk about the patients. There is no such thing as confidential. Some got fired in ER awhile back because they talked about patients. I have overheard some of the nurses discussing patients.

I've witnessed this over the years also. Small towns are the worse for this, because everybody knows everyone's business thanks to people like that spreading patient info especially if that worker doesn't like the person they're going to spread any bad info they can. I think we've all heard a hospital worker somewhere talking about a patient at one time or another, so we are probably all guilty of allowing those sworn to secrecy to break their oath of silence. Everyone needs to start reporting these instances. If people with cell phones would at least take a picture or quick video (because of course they will deny it) of those involved and take it to the Administration and to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Civil Rights http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/civilrights/complaints... to report them (to start with) along with the Joint Commission http://www.jointcommission.org/report_a_compl... if they feel necessary, I guarentee things would change around not only here but any place that's supposed to in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Go back and read all my posts, you will see that my main problem with the ER was refusal to pack a nosebleed (said it wouldn't help) and transport of an 80 yr old patient. It's uncompassionate people like you that sit behind their computer and stereotype people on here that's looking for help in dealing with hospitals like this. If someone has a ligitamate complaint, yes, even about lack of pain control, they can contact any of the links I've provided for assistance.

let's take this a step further. Do you honestly think Harlan ARH is the only hospital that has ever made a mistake and these mistakes should close the hospital, put 650 people out if work which would annihilate Harlan County. Some of the greatest hospitals in this nation have made the worse mistakes known to mankind. For example John Hopkins world renowned. These mistakes are called human error. Pilots have human errors and crash and kill 100's of people at one time. You need to go and visit some other hospitals and stick around a little while and you'll find things are about the same everywhere.

This topic is titled "harlan arh". It's not about pilots or anywhere else, although I have refered in other posts that it goes for other places too. No one has said anything about putting anyone out of work, we as the public only want fair treatment and our privacy to be upheld and if the workers aren't able to provide that then they need to be reprimanded. It's not human error to refuse treatment or to talk about a patients condition etc. That is going against HIPAA laws. This hospital has had a lot of problems over the years, some have been addressed, some ignored in my opinion.

at least we have a hospital. and I am sure its saved alot of lives .. and theres probbly some thats cause a life to be taken. AS all hospitals have done. I know some very good drs that try to find out whats wrong .they will run tests and then dr you for it when they find out. SOOOO IF YOU dont like ARH STAY AWAY. go somewhere else.
I HAVE family that works there. and they are good workers. and they do thier job. and another thing it feeds my grandbabies. sooo like I say . GO ON to Pineville OR VA. take your pic. its a 40 minute drive or less one way. so now what would be your gripe if you went to either one of these places.
I AM SURE you gripers on here will or would find something to b...tch about .

well said. There are good and bad in every hospital. As for HIPAA there are some pretty interesting cases online so it's not just Harlan that has issues with HIPAA. In small rural communities people know each other or are related so it's easier to violate HIPAA without realizing that you are.

ARH Worker wrote:
You do not have to get it approved by the ENT. I dont know who was working, but if the ER Doctor feels you need to be shipped out, then you are. And the ER Doctors can write pain meds, they are fixing it now that you have to go to pain clinics and just regular Doctors can only write 48 hours worth of pain meds. So all patients on chronic meds will have to be sent to pain clinics by September.
Can you please link me to a website that tells about these changes? I have used google, yahoo, and bing but cannot find any info about this. Just curious to what all the changes will be.

I take my children to see Dr. Akisanya and that is it. I like him, trust him and I'm happy to have him. I also like Sheilia Ahmad, she's great. The others are a joke and some of the worker's are complete idiots, I think that is mostly in the hospital, no the DBC clinic. It's a regular whore house out there. Not only that, I know for a FACT the staff shares confidential information with their family! Ridiculous and unprofessional.

I live Dr A too. Great with kids and he speaks to people in public and is very invested in his son's life too. Dr. Amro is the same way. Love love love him. You don't find many doctors like them.

I have to agree that harlan is the pits. My husband was in a car wreck a couple yrs ago, took by ems to harlan because they could go anywhere else . he was in bad shape and laid there 2 hrs before the dr even came in they took bp and done paperwork and he was begging them to do something, his head was swelling ,i finally broke bad the dr came in ordered x-rays took another hour and half only to be told he was okay, the nurses did not even clean the glass out of his head or hands. we took him to big stone and he was hurt head, nech hands and shoulder so they can say whatever they know what they are.. and the nurses get on facebook talking about free medical and welfare lowlifes they may have to take of should not even have a job. but who cares they sure don't.

Patients, when this happens and you receive less than adaquate care, PLEASE REPORT THIS! If the patients don't report then who will?? It's up to us to make the changes because the hospitals won't.
When I reported them, of course they denied everything, but still it goes on their record. If they have enough unresolved complaints against them they can loose their accreditation and they don't want that to happen.
If you have Medicare contact 1-800-MEDICARE or http://www.medicare.gov/navigation/help-and-s... otherwise contact your insurance carrier. They will advise you on what step to take next.
