there is a lot of posers out there with their tapout t-shirts the only MMA training ever done in harlan co was by Master Dan Howard at Brewers gym and a lot of guys mentioned on this post are good fighters but by far the best pound for pound MMA fighter would have to be Bill Petra

Don't they have some of the fights on tape? I think I saw one a about two years ago. That would be a good thing for someone to sale, tapes of the local boys ( past and present ) fighting in those matches.

HMMM... I would say it depends on when you was talking about, Back in 1996 maybe around 2001 I would say Ernie Shell was a great street fighter, along with Paul Rigney, I have heard of Ernie Holding fights at the black mtn walking track, used to be EL Whiteheads and I saw him fight 7 straight times back to back to back, He boxed Chris Dean and set him down, Paul Rigney fought Adam Car back in the day that was a great fight... Now days I think MMA? Also Didn't Ernie Shell bring that to KY too. Anybody know what ever happened to him?

Dunno about Bill Petra and Chris Brewer leaving Harlan to "do something", but Mike Walbrgight (who NEVER lost a fight to anyone from Harlan) went to Atlanta several times and fought some of the best fighters in the world. If you don't believe that, then check out UFC 102 coming up in a week or so. Todd Duffee is fighting on that card and is expected to be a contender for the UFC heavyweight title. Walbright knocked him down just 4 seconds into the fight before Duffee made a comeback and beat Walbright (after illegally kneeing him in the head while he was down).

ANDREW EARLES was another good fighter from harlan not mentioned on here and i do have to agree with jimbo collins that mike walbright definately needs to be mentioned as well. he really had no skill worth mentioning but he did have a big heart and an iron chin

Well, back in the day, a guy by the name of Jim Collins was. He was so bad, I heard he could chew coal and spit out steam electricity! But that was before he went to war with the British for 15 years. He moved over seas for a while until the United Nations (with the exception of the USA) unanimously voted that he would have to return to America due to the constant fear for other countries lives. He now resides in Colorado until the peons build his temple back on Mt. Olympus. Jim Collins is now and forever will be the King !!!!!

Walbright never lost to Anthony Tindell. Check their records. They fought 3 times. First was a draw, second Walbright won, third fight was ruled a no-contest because Tindell illegally punched Walbright in the throat.

Good point Andrew. You did have a solid MMA career. You are right about ole Walbright too. He never had any training in wrestling, jiu jitsu, boxing, kickboxing, karate or anything else , but still managed to win 15 straight fights. Once he turned pro he lost his mojo I guess.

Just watched the DVD and it was definately a punch right in the throat. Counting stars? I thought you were there? Walbright got hit, grabbed his throat and stumbled backwards and fell to his knees. Counting stars? lmao in Tindell's dreams

No, Derek lost in that tournament, but he took a severe beating at the hands of BJ Hickson so they gave him the heavyweight baddest man trophy because there were no other heavyweights in the tournament that night.

harlan guy you dont even know what you are talking about they arnt the only ones to go out of harlan mike, hobert, and my self all fought pro and out of the state for that. So you need to get you facts straight not a damn person on here knows any thing about what they are talking about. Brewers guy fights are the only fighters ever to do anything period in harlan for fighting and almost all of them dont even fight. Hell I lift a brewers but I train at team iron lock in jonesville VA. now, and still fight.

The guy Mike Walbright fought (and knocked down) in Georgia fought last night on the UFC PPV. He knocked a guy out in 7 seconds. The fastest KO in UFC History. His name was Todd Duffee
